You mean the DVD-V boxed set mix repurposed for SACD. They're the same mix.
They are the same mix, yes, but it's inaccurate to say that the mix was "repurposed" from DVD-V to SACD. The Nick Davis 5.1 mixes were released simultaneously on SACD and DVD-V. Unfortunately, in North America—where the albums were on Atlantic, rather than Virgin—Rhino chose to omit hybrid SACDs in favor of standard Redbook CDs, so we missed out on lossless 5.1.

Whether it was literally repurposed depends on what the format of the master mix file was.

Typically it's hi-rez PCM (because mixing and production are far easier to do in PCM), which is then converted to DSD (which only adds a bunch of ultrahigh-frequency noise). I call that a repurposing.

That PCM master would also be the input to the 96/24 DTS encoder.

Though thinking of SACDs that way does give one a clearer idea of their actual, rather than imaginary, properties.

(The minority that are 'pure DSD' excluded, of course. )

I've had that 2007 mix on SACD and DVD-V since it was released and never cared much for it, same as the many folks who have heard it. Apparently some folks like the newly remastered stereo version on SACD and vinyl from Acoustic Sounds, but not everyone thinks it's worth the ridiculously high prices. The only thing I care about is getting a totally new Atmos mix that does justice to the material. Whether that materializes is still an open question. And why they wouldn't include new stereo and purpose built 5.1 mixes is also a bit troubling for an expensive, "definitive" box set.

Well I agree, wringing yet another drop of 'remastering' juice from a stereo master that's been remastered a few times already, seems cynical. The only value I expect from this set is a new surround mix.

But who knows? Maybe all the previous 2-channel remasters got it 'wrong'. (Let's ignore the 2-channel remix, shall we? I sure do.)

Steve (ForagingRhino) said over on SHF that this is the first time the original UK master has been used for remastering, so it's possible there is some improvement over previous releases.

Love Genesis but this is heavily overpriced. I don't buy it. I'm satisfied with the Box-Set Version from 2008. Have the SACD/DVD Box for the Gabriel years. The 5.1 Remix for the Lamb-Album by Nick Davis is awesome. For the Stereo-Version I prefer the 1994 Definitive Edition Remaster.

Nothing new on the the 50th Anniversary Box with the exception of the Atmos content. Interesting for Atmos-Fans and for those who don't have the out of print 2008 SACD/DVD Box. The live Version is The Lamb from Shrine Auditorium L.A. Released in 1998 on Archive 1967-73 with overdubs and new vocals (from 1995) by Peter Gabriel. I think there is no original good sounding version of a Lamb live concert available.

I agree. I want the vinyl version and that is like $200!!!
I have the SACD/DVD version, the 2024 SACD of the original mix, the 2008ish remix vinyl (which sounds great) and a 1974 Porky cut of the original vinyl.
It would be nice to have an audiophile pressing of the original mix on vinyl but not sure I need the live version on vinyl (very happy with the Archive 1 version).
It's one of my favorite album and I want to support but it looks like the value is not there.
If they can knock it down to under $150, I know I will cave.
