I did some internet surfing on cost of CD .25Cents vs Bluray.50cents.
There are also factors, a CD making plant is different that a Blu Ray plant. The conversion from a CD manufacturer to a Blu Ray manufacture can be costly.
I personally would buy stereo music put on a BD, which we have done already (Pure Audio as an example), for the higher bit and Khz rate, assuming the cost was not ridiculous.
As an industry it seems the choice CD vs BD is solely about content. The Blu ray able mainly to hold video content and added audio content, up to 10 times more.
I think as an industry which obviously is in flux right now, mainly between streaming and physical of any kind,
I feel lucky that multiple options are available to us.
Rip them to lossless files,
This is an absolute must for me, and I feel blessed I am able to do all formats very well and have great equipment to play files, even in my car via a thumb drive.
I think all of us on QQ are educated enough to agree that original, recording, mixing and mastering is paramount to an awesome listening session. One example, and there are thousands, Dire Straits-Brothers In Arms, sounds good all the time, no matter what.
I will close with a time I was at Acoustic Sounds in Salina Kansas. Was led to there vinyl demo room, great equipment with wall treatment. They laid a record on the turntable and all I could focus on was the clicks and pops as it had been years since I listened to a record. I thought, man, this is your demo, sounds horrible.
