I just picked up Benefit in 5.1 and I'm amazed...

...I had the album when I was a kid but it's not one I'd play often?

It's a totally different experience in 5.1, it's the same album...but it's not the same album...?...you just haven't heard Benefit until you've heard it in 5.1.

...it's my new favourite: Benefit, Minstrel in the Gallery, Aqualung, and (since I already have it) I can't give up my 5.1 of Heavy Horses (Can't give up No Lullaby at the very least, and because nostalgia...and it's acoustic/analog)).

The other stuff is so much of it's time...?...I (personally) just can't go back to it.

I just bit the bullet and bought a 5.1 of Aqualung and very much looking forward to listening to it. Hearing Benefit just turned me on to the idea that Aqualung is (for me) probably worth picking up in 5.1...?...it was one of those albums I've listened to so many times I'd just sucked all of the marrow out of it, but I guess it's been a long time and 5.1 should reinvigorate and improve things.

...thank god I don't want Stand Up: so expensive.

I was reluctant to pay so much for Aqualung because I can't imagine these albums won't get Atmos releases at some point in the future...?...so, probably a drop in value is on the horizon for these media books?

So, I'm caught somewhere between understanding why the Benefit 5.1 is still on retail shelves...?...and not really being able to believe it.

But yeah, if you'd told me a couple of months ago that my two favourite albums would be Benefit in 5.1 and Ogre's Seven Hells, I would have been like...eh? :There'sNoEmoji:

The Benefit album was fine on the 2013 set and was used on the book-set. Reason enough for some people not to re-buy.

There was additional content in the book set though, making it a worthwhile buy even if you already have the 2013 release... more info in the book itself, of course, plus additional stereo studio and live tracks including video of the 1970 Tanglewood concert. The book version is still available for under $40 in the U.S. from several sellers on Amazon, and at importCDs for $30.81 plus shipping.

Benefit is my favourite Tull album ...so much so that I have the 2013 and recent Book editions .
Both have the same Steven Wilson 5.1 mix...which is superb.
That's interesting, that might explain it.

Is Benefit the only Tull album to get a 5.1 release prior to the recent book editions; I'm assuming it probably is, for it to be the only one still on retail shelves?

Now I'm thinking I should have looked harder before spending so much money for the Aqualung book...I'd juts assumed they were the only 5.1 editions.

I have Aqualung in the Bluray and DVD version from the big box set including an LP.....circa 2011.
At the time I paid $165.00 CDN , which was a bit steep back then.

I'm Not certain what the Book set fetches. But the 5.1 mix is well worth having , and is much better inmyopinion than the 4.0 quad mix.
It restores the original guitar solos that are not present on the quad mix.

I took a look at that set and it's still around that kind of price...?...so not feeling as bad about spending similar for the digibook.

So yeah, Benefit sadly still seems overlooked. It's a shame, because it's such an amazing album in 5.1.

I think it's probably because Stand Up and Aqualung have more mainstream appeal? The Stand Up digibook, for instance, has Living in The Past and New Day Yesterday... 🤷‍♂️...whereas there are no real stand-out singles on Benefit?

But I've not looked at the prices and availability of anything after Songs from The Wood, so not sure what the overall trend is, but I can't imagine the Songs from the Wood digibook would be particularly cheap.

Also says there’s an upcoming Wilson remix set of Bursting Out? Was this already confirmed or just speculation?
Ian Anderson said it, so I can give a Canadian confirmation. :D Bursting Out is busting out, eh. 🇨🇦

Anderson is hardly done following his muse just yet. Not only did he confirm with me that he just approved the mixes Steven Wilson has done for an upcoming expanded edition of September 1978’s 2LP Bursting Out live set (which he sees as the companion piece to the 2009-released Live at Madison Square Garden 1978 collection), but he also notes the delayed updated edition of April 1982’s The Broadsword and the Beast has now been reset for release this July. Plus, he’s already begun working on another new Jethro Tull studio album, tentatively set for release in the fall of 2024. In other words, there’s no rest for this perpetual passion player.

That's fantastic news, Bursting Out is a great double-live album from an era of great double-live albums.

Just saying….

Someone commented on the Jethro Tull Group Facebook page that the video footage was from Uxbridge, not MSG. This right? I cannot find this gig anywhere.

That's an extremely weird claim. Sure there is plenty of evidence that shows it was filmed at the MSG. Maybe they were just joking.
I think they were claiming that the video in the forthcoming box was a show from a different venue. Meaning it wouldn't simply be a rehash of the MSG show released on DVD a while back. I tried to find info to confirm, but couldn't find any.

Benefit is my fave Tull album , thus my two . It does have bonus the 2 versions of Teacher and Alive And Well....was not available on the original North American album , back in the day.
3 ? Thick As A Brick....well it was only 30 beanz CDN , so I just had to have a third.

My favorite is Stand Up. They were touring behind that album when I first saw them live. Next time I saw them was right after Benefit was released, thus, Benefit is my 2nd favorite Tull album. I also have TAAB except I missed out on the replacement disc. Sometimes I wonder what my copy is worth without the corrected disc. 🤔🤷‍♂️

That would be awesome if true.
