I'm not quite following the point of this thread:confused:

I believe what CPR is getting at here is that Layla is being released on a DVDA in 5.1 on April 26. If Layla is, in fact, released as a DVDA on April 26, I will purchase a copy.

The Layla DVD Audio was released on 4/26, along with all the other stuff one had to purchase to get the DVD. I was hoping that purchasers who bought the package for the vinyl, book, cd's or other stuff would list the dvd on ebay. anyone know of any of these DVD-A's for sale?

Scheiner's 5.1 mix in DTS is the bomb! Even though I'm the perennial sucker for record company repackaging, I had considered passing on the new Layla box. Then, I read that it would include this mix. I like the SACD 5.1 mix, but it takes a back seat to this. The SACD is pretty narrowly mixed and doesn't take many risks. There are some things more prominent on the SACD and a few things I don't hear on the Scheiner mix. The SACD sounds a bit more open. Yet, in the end the Scheiner mix is more creative and involving. Spec wise, DTS isn't SACD or DVD-A, but the DTS version has punch that the Dolby Digital version here or SACD don't even approach. After A/B'ing the two surround mixes for the last few weeks, there is no contest.

Most of what's in this box has been out already. Yet, if I had to recommend any version of Layla at any price, this box is the one to buy. The 5.1 Scheiner mix is the biggest reason, but there are others. It is much more listenable than the previous Layla box. The jam discs on the 20th anniversary box were of great historical significance. This box is more listenable.

For those of you still interested in this set, it's at Overstock.com for $88 ($96 with tax and shipping). I pulled the trigger on one, even though it's still a painful price. I just think these are going to be really rare birds.

Well, I rushed to get it at this price ($90.60 after shipping for me), but I looked around and it appears that there are a few places to get it. I could've saved 28 cents at ImportCDs. Looking forward to hearing this!

lovely mix.. shame it's stuck in a big box stuffed full of other items of dubious merit, in a package which is so poorly conceived that the box tears to bits inside and all the discs fall around and about the dreadful innards and all get scratched in transit.

I got mine through Barnes and Noble a couple weeks ago during a 15% off sale. The bubble wrap in the package was not very protective - the product had a big dent in the side of the box and when I opened it the discs had all come out of their slots. Maybe a mistake expecting a "book" company to know how to send music discs...

On the plus side, with the great reviews of this, I was anticipating some really nice surround mixing, and the disc does not disappoint.

maybe these box sets will become even more prized and collectible in future not just for the brilliant Elliot Scheiner surround mix but also if you were one of the lucky ones whose box is intact inside and out and whose discs are not scratched to buggery..!?!

The record companies want titles that will sell long term...a nice box set with the works is seen as that because it can always be seen as a nice gift for somebody... a 5.1 dvda mix probably isn't seen like that ,as it's catering for a small niche market , that although it will sell well to start with, but in the long term ...after most of the interested people have bought it early on... it will be seen as a very slow mover....not to mention what a noidy peer to peer network can do to destroy dvda sales...but it can't destroy a box set complete with vinyl lp's in the same way.

not sure i entirely agree with your last statement.. aren't these DTS DVD-V's even easier to rip off & distribute online than DVD-A's..!?

also, I'd go so far as to say the lure of a ripped copy of the lone disc worth having in these box sets is even greater than that of a standalone surround release.

i reckon there's a perverse sense of greater justification to forego a big box full of other "stuff" and just illegally download a rip of the one surround sound disc in that bundle, than there is to do the same with a more affordable, more readily available set like a CD/DVD combo.

I got mine from Overstock yesterday and it's going back. The box was dented in the corner and the cover has a puncture at the bottom of the guitar graphic. Inside the magnets securing the lid had fallen out. The "Derek Is Eric" pin had found its' way into the book and had creased the pages. And worst of all the discs had come out of their slots and the 5.1 disc was scratched. All they did was throw it into the bottom of a box and piled air pillows on top. No protection at all on the bottom. Acoustic Sounds may be expensive, but they know how to ship a package.

Mine was damaged also when I got it.... Luckily I was able to pick up a replacement (the last one in stock) from the distributor in person at their warehouse!!!

A lot of these were damaged in transit... Everything is just loose in the box.

a pathetic package I'd never have entertained buying if it wasn't for the ES 5.1 mix.

I couldn't agree more. We've all made fun of the Immersion boxes, but this is way worse. Does anyone actually think I'd put that stupid pick guard sticker on my guitar? The pop-up artwork inside the box is ridiculous and why would I want miniature replica tickets?

HUGE RANT ALERT!!!!

I have received the item from Overstock and

I HAVE BEEN SOLD A KNOWINGLY DEFECTIVE ITEM SINCE THE SHIPPING BOX WAS in PERFECT SHAPE (I would have refused the delivery had the shipping box been crushed like the item).

I HAVE NOT OPENED THE ITEM NOR HAVE I THROWN AWAY THE SHIPPING BOX IN CASE THEY WANT PHOTOS.

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE RECEIVED AN ITEM IN SUCH BAD CONDITION IN ALL OF MY YEARS OF SHIPPING ONLINE AND FIND IT INSULTING, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE PRICE IS SO ELEVATED.

I mean, if it had been ONLY CD/DVDs , well I wouldn't be this mad,
BUT THIS HAS TWO LPS IN IT!!!!

AVOID OVERSTOCK.COM AT ANY COST, IS WHAT I HAVE TO SAY!!!!!

end of VERY angry rant!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
