Pink Floyd - The Endless River

Weird album.
Other than the occasional David Gilmour solo you’d never know this is Pink Floyd.
Some of the snippets (I hesitate to call them songs) are quite good, others not so much.
I think I like it, but not sure how often it will get played,

The album is made from Division Bell recording sessions, so is presumably the bits that weren't good enough to get on that album. So it's not surprising it isn't what you'd expect for a Floyd album.

I have really come around to this album in a big way after a few listens - it's subtle, but then I realized how much the sequencing of tracks just builds and builds and builds to the end of the album, - and it really brings to light (and is a tribute to) the importance of Richard's Wrights contributions. Though this may be a unique take on this (and sound like a bit of stretch), I really think of this album as a classic "post-rock" album - and oddly reminds me of parts of various Tortoise albums at times.

Alan Parsons Project - Ammonia Avenue

24/96 LPCM 2.0
I’d heard this one was bright. A teensy bit maybe but sounds fine to me.
The problem is the music.
If there is even one memorable song on this album, I can’t find it. (I suppose Prime Time is OK on second listen).
Usually his instrumentals are good but the one here (Pipeline) is dull.
Shrug, can’t win them all.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Americana

Renditions, many of them odd, of folk classics.
Enjoyable nonetheless.
And the raw sound, in 24/192 LPCM, suits me just fine

Yes - The Yes Album

One of their classics, Top 3 in my book.
The sound of the SW 2.0 remix in 24/96 LPCM is excellent but didn’t wow me on first listen quite as much as Fragile. The end section of Starship Troopers (Wurm) seemed a bit lifeless.
But that’s nitpicking, a great presentation overall

Yello - Point

Though there is a Dolby Atmos mix, I’m listening in 24/48 LPCM 2.0
Great sound with catchy electronic pop songs. Kinda kitschy.
What’s not to like?

Steven Wilson - The Future Bites

2.0 24/96 LPCM
A friend played me a few bits and pieces of this a couple of months ago.
Didn't think that much of it, too poppy.
But now that I play it in its entirety, and drop any expectations and preconceptions of what I think a Steven Wilson should sound like, I'm left with an album I really like.
The tough part LOL is that half the songs seem to be about me

John Lennon - Gimme Some Truth

24/96 LPCM in 2.0
For the most part these remixes sound great. Better & cleaner definition while managing to remain warm.
And the music/songs are sublime.
A couple of songs (Mind Games, #9 Dream) lose something in the translation and Whatever Gets You Thru’ the Night has lost some of its frantic energy.
But these are very minor gripes.
Love this set.

Gentle Giant - Free Hand

This Steven Wilson remix in 2.0 24/96 LPCM is an improvement over the DVD and CD.
Still think the “up & down” (don’t know how else to describe them) vocals are weird, this is where the instrumental version really shines through. It will be my go to version in the future.

I need to check out SW’s 2.0 mixes. Up ‘til now I’ve only reveled in the 5.1 :)

Eddie Jobson - Green Album & Theme of Secrets

The Green Album is early 80’s pop/progressive synth music.
It has its moments, the sound is bright.
Theme of Secrets is instrumental, completely recorded on a Synclavier.
Better sound but the music is tedious at times.
Overall the set is OK, but glad I paid under $20 for it.

Gentle Giant - The Power and The Glory

GG is an acquired taste IMO, some of their albums are hard to get into.
But not this one, I liked it right off the bat.
Steven Wilson’s mix in 2.0 24/96 LPCM is excellent as always.
