did you see WP in Chicago ? At Chicago Theatre ? ( Pure Bliss !!! )
No, it was at Poplar Creek in Hoffman Estates, IL. Ken (Fourplay) researched the date and posted it. Hell, I didn't remember the date! As I recall, Ken said 1981. Evidently, I had just returned from my first honeymoon. Guess I had other things on my mind...

The Allman Brothers Band - Idlewild South

45th Anniversary Edition which includes the album and bonus tracks on a Bluray.
I listened in 24/96 stereo which sounds very good.

On CD it also includes the entire Ludlow Garage 1970 concert originally released in 1990.
Sounds a bit rough but that’s OK, it’s the Allmans.

I'm re-watching Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, and in episode 2, Tohru went and referenced the crane wife story. So, of course, I had to explain the story to the friends I'm watching with, and now I gotta listen to the album. The title tracks are so beautiful and heart-rending, and the whole album is a winner. "When the War Came" especially gets my history nerd tendencies going.

Some say this vonKarajan is the one to own. Do you have his 70's, 80's cycles, or the cycle by others? If so, how would you rate the 60's performances to others by vonK/Berlin, as well as other conductors?

Certainly among the most played classical albums I own. I did not buy the 60's cycle, but did buy the 70's box on LP and on CD. Bought the 80's on CD. Both 80's performances and recordings seemed too sterile. For that reason, i didn't seek out 80's on DVD. 70's LP box sounded best to me. Has anyone bought the vonK 70's box on 2ch Japan SACD?

I have trouble justifying a new cycle, especially on actual performances I already own. Besides the vonK's, I also bought cycle by Barenboim/Berliner Staatskapelle on DVD-A's (in CD size cases!)

I can understand why ppl would say that, it sounds pretty damned good!! I've had the whole thing on repeat since last night. Listening to the end of symphonie no.7 now & it's gobsmacking.

I have these box sets on vinyl:

Cluytens '60s pressing ( I think? Angel so maybe it's a 70s reissue )
Steinberg '60s pressing
von Karajan '60s pressing
von Karajan '77 pressing

But have never really compared them. In fact I still have to run two of them thru my record cleaner! A daunting task as there's so many LP's.

CD has the huge advantage of no surface noise, so you can really crank it up & get all the dynamics. And I can run the whole program on my CD changer without bothering with flipping records :)

Maybe over the weekend I'll clean up those other sets & do a vinyl shootout.
