Worthless upmix

i haven't checked out the 12-channel version on the Computer in 7.1.4 yet but just trying it now in 5.1.2 on the Apple TV and i don't think it's fake tbh.

edit: sorry, this is regarding the Atmos of The Go-Go's "Beauty and the Beat"!

I’ve been unsure about diving in, as I wasn’t sure how it would be “atmossed” (made up word) so I’m excited to try it out.

As a separate note. I’d love to get some ambient stuff in atmos. Would be great to unwind to.

So far Amazon Music Unlimited is still only delivering Atmos to Echo Studio speakers and mobile devices, though? Bizarre, since Fire Sticks have been serving up Atmos on Tidal to AVRs for over a year now.

Looks like Lady Gaga is now the featured artist; anything new on there from her in Atmos (I'm just not up on my Gaga titles?)

Also, I love me some good "Ambient" or "New Age" stuff, are there dedicated Atmos Categories just for those?

While browsing around in Apple Music I came across an album that isn't marked as Atmos, Morcheeba's Big Calm. All but one song (track 3) are Atmos. Couldn't have been happier. But this turns out to be something of it's own. It's a an upmix, but a good one. Don't know why they haven't done the real thing because there really have been put some time and effort into improving the sound. Maybe someone forgot to backup the multitrack files before the computer died? If you think of this as a great stereo remaster you will not get dissappointed, but it is hard not to think how this would have sounded given the full treatment. The stereo mix has got quite a few elements that are phase manipulated to make the mix deep and wide. These elements transfer very well to the upmix and can be taken for separate elements, but a closer listen reveals that the stereo mix is represented in every speaker at low levels. The album is also available on Tidal, but lacks two tracks including the single 'The sea' so I skip the link. The order of the songs are not like the original album either. Very strange...

The first song of last year's album 'The Blackest Blue" is in Atmos, 'Cut My Heart Out'. This is discrete and immersive sounding. Pretty cool in fact.

Let's hope they haven't lost the multitracks for 'Fragments of Freedom'. Would have been a great Atmos album.

Speaking of Budz, my AirPod Pro Gen 2’s are due this Friday (though… they haven’t shipped yet).

I picked em up because of two reasons:

1. My launch AirPods Pro have a defect that Apple does have a recall on. I had em serviced once and I didn’t wanna do it again.

2. The internals sport an updated H1 chip (low latency, Apple device feature support), the H2 that was marketed as being “better for spatial audio” in the Apple Event. Will let you all know if there really is a difference.
