This has been a chronic problem on Tidal with Atmos tracks since the very beginning.I noticed major volume differences between tracks on the two INXS releases on Tidal. I get there will be volume differences between albums but not sure why they'd allow such wild swings in volume within an album.
The encode step to Dolby E-AC-3 JOC (presumably post mix and any mastering done on the lossless Atmos files) where Dolby Dialnorm values are applied may be where things can go very wrong.
Since QA of album playback post Dolby E-AC-3 JOC encode seems to be non-existent these problems are not noticed except by the poor end users. Writing to Tidal about it has proved useless.
The same Atmos mixes/files on Apple Music typically don't have these kinds of occasional gross volume difference problems between tracks since they use Dolby MAT for delivery which apparently helps mitigate them and also the typical gross difference in volume between Atmos and Stereo tracks in general seen on Tidal.
