What kind of multitracks could they possibly have had for that?
So great to have Zappa in surround! I hope they keep 'em coming.
Huh--weird. I wasn't getting anything like that on my 5.1.4 system, where the mixes seem pretty well balanced (although with some elements in the overheads that I'd normally expect to see consigned to the "beds"). I'll listen more carefully next time 'round. . . .So great to have Zappa in surround! I hope they keep 'em coming.
On my 5.1 system, the Atmos mixes sound a little unorthodox though. Very rear-heavy, not a lot going on in the fronts, bass mostly in the center. Wondering if it come across as rear-focused to those with Atmos setups. On my rig, it almost sounds like a 5.1 mix where they switched the fronts and rears in error. There have been other mixes on Apple that sound similarly balanced-skewed to the rear to me, such as the Beach Boys' Sounds Of Summer compilation, and other more modern-era ones that aren't springing to mind at the moment.
I'm not complaining; I'm still enjoying the two Zappa releases, and they're certainly preferable to the doubled-stereo Warners mixes. I see that the physical release will include 5.1 mixes as well as Atmos, so maybe those would be closer to my expectations?
The bass sounds really amazing on these new mixes, crystal clear and I can really pick out the incredibly intricate and right in the pocket bass linesSo great to have Zappa in surround! I hope they keep 'em coming.

Are you in need for some immersive pop music? I put on Selena Gomez' Rare tonight and I quite like the mix. Couldn't find out who did the atmos mix, but it certainly is both playfull and immersive.

Wow, love me some Tommy James. The mixes are really cool. So much going on that you never heard in mono on a little transistor radio……
