Here in Norway the price for Apple Music was raised earlier in the summer. I don't complain, it's my main source for Atmos music.Another no-music-but-news-to-share:
https://9to5mac.com/2022/10/24/apple-music-tv-prices-going-up/Apple Music and Apple TV+ are all going up $1. If you have an Apple One sub, which lumps in various Apple subscriptions together, that's going up $3.
The rationale given is thus:
The subscription prices for Apple Music, Apple TV+, and Apple One will increase beginning today. The change to Apple Music is due to an increase in licensing costs, and in turn, artists and songwriters will earn more for the streaming of their music. We also continue to add innovative features that make Apple Music the world’s best listening experience. We introduced Apple TV+ at a very low price because we started with just a few shows and movies. Three years later, Apple TV+ is home to an extensive selection of award-winning and broadly acclaimed series, feature films, documentaries, and kids and family entertainment from the world’s most creative storytellers.
Edit: Apple Music is pretty high up there with payouts towards artists, if $1 a month gets them closer to the market leader in artist payouts, Napster (yes... really), then I'm for it. That being said, I'm on my dad's Apple One family plan, so I'm personally not paying a dime.
Second edit: might as well put the prices in here. From that same source:

Was this one already mentioned in the thread? Does not look like an upmix and it's the first Billy Joel in Atmos I'm aware of (weird election to start...)
It's quite a weird mix, sometimes it's very front heavy and all of a sudden the rears kick off and startle you (the backing volcals of Goodnight Saigon, for example)Obviously not his biggest album, but it was one of his most critically acclaimed. And I know it's one of his favorites. It may have had something to do with the fact that the atmos mix was released on the album's fortieth anniversary.
Mix is good on some songs, not so good on others. I like the mixes on "Scandinavian Skies" and "Where's the Orchestra."

I tried it a while back. It's definitely not an upmix, but its not a very good mix either. Too bad. Its a stunning BJ album with hit tracks that haven't been played to death like some of the others. These hit tracks have only been played to the ICU.It's quite a weird mix, sometimes it's very front heavy and all of a sudden the rears kick off and startle you (the backing volcals of Goodnight Saigon, for example)
Hey @PurpleMoustache: hop on the Lake Shore Limited to see a Hisaishi premiere at Carnegie Hall on Nov. 5, with Nadia Sirota, Nico Muhly, and members of Bang On a Can. Tickets 50% off with promo code MFD39879.Absolutely thrilled that the Kiki score is up. One of my all time favorite movies.
Theres like 1-3 Joe Hisaishi Atmos mixes a week, wonder if they’re building a catalogue for an Artist Feature…
A first listen for me.Was this one already mentioned in the thread? Does not look like an upmix and it's the first Billy Joel in Atmos I'm aware of (weird election to start...)

Yes. Like it was rushed and only the easy stuff was separated out. It could have been great. We'll never know because it will probably never be remixed in a surround format again.A first listen for me.
It's a cracking album
Was it a sorcerer's apprentice who did the mix? Brilliant in places, lacking in others.
Was this ever mixed in quad back in the day? Cuz this seems to be straight up 4.0 quad.
It's not a quad - all channels in 7.1.4 are active - but like many of these Sony singles presumably mixed for 360RA and then later ported to Atmos, the center channel is not used. Drums/bass are upfront, all guitars are in the sides, lead vocals are in the fronts & front heights (if you solo the front heights, you get the lead vocal and nothing else), and backing vocals are in the rears & rear heights. Was this ever mixed in quad back in the day?
