I am a huge fan of RUSH. But I've hesitated getting any of these Mch releases due to the mixed reviews. Actually, I am dying to listen to them in surround. Which Mch releases would be a good place to start?? Any advice?? Thanks!

Side 2 of 2112 is good. Most of Signals is poor. Farewell to Kings is OK as is Moving Pictures, but no greatness can be found with the 5.1 Rush releases sorry to say...

"That's the Way of the World" DVD-A conversion from Q8. Listening to the 1-2 punch of "Shining Star and That's the Way of the World" back to back to start off the album, wow. It's quad at it's finest. Whoever mixed this disc should have gotten a grammy.

Love the vocals, the way they are split between the channels. This would make a true winner of an AF SACD if they could get it.

That's the Way of the World has a very nice mix indeed...

Sorry, it was in 5.0....not Surround...lovely mix too..although there was an audio dropout for about 5 seconds...

It's a shame a band like Rush doesn't have better audio performances on their discs...I just gave up on them...too many flops...I'd rather hear them on the radio than be subjected to the abuse of buying "supposedly" hi rez products which are mediocre by hi rez standards...I guess they are in denial about the sound of their products or they don't care what they sound like...you would think they would get some objective feedback from someone....but in reality a lot of these bands are insulated from everybody except the fanboy types who worship everything they do...they aren't the only high profile band that does this...if they only knew what a guy like Elliot Scheiner or Steven Wilson...or Bob Clearmountain could do for their music...just a shame...

My advice to you...stay away from the Rush titles until they actually provide something worthwhile...lot's of other music out there to buy that does deserve a good home:phones

OK, here's the deal...
As you may nave seen from all the posts in here, if you are expecting Steven Wilson/Elliot Scheiner mixing standards, you will be seriously disappointed - Rush's "version" of Surround is just Stereo with SOME stuff in the rears...
..but , alas, having stated this, first, the concerts that were mixed by Alex Lifeson and ...Kevin Shirley(??) on Replay are not that bad...and with Moving Pictures and Signals, we get a real spectrum mix from Multis(since they were both mixed to early digital)...

So, proceed at your own risk, ..they are still enjoyable...

Started off 2015 with Steve Miller Fly Like An Eagle DTS-CD...this is a superb disc...I would suggest a purchase of this disc now...while it's still available...great content...great sound...not much else you could ask for IMO...

The hirez stereo releases don't sound too bad. Better than the remastered CDs. More crankable for sure. Rush in Rio, now that is one hideous 5.1 recording...

Hattler - Surround Cuts - DTS CD

Cowboy Junkies - Whites Off Earth Now! - SACD 2.0 (UHJ Ambisonics) -> Surround Master... not bad compared to the 5.1 on the same disc...

So far, I only have the "Moving Pictures" & "2112". Although, not perfect, I feel they did a good job with mixing both. Especially with "2112" where there's less instruments used in most parts. When I was listening to the "Rumours" DVD-A before it, the cymbals didn't sound like real cymbals. They sound like I'm cymbals on most compact discs, splashy white noise. On the other hand, the cymbals on the RUSH discs sound closer to real cymbals.

I've heard "Signals" and it did not sound good. One of the things I seem to remember is that it sounded out-of-phase.

The RUSH concerts are bad and very compressed. I would rather listen to the stereo track.

I was listening to Tapestry. Wishing the vocals were a bit more front and center but still enjoyable. Amazing how many great songs CK has written.

All the Rush DVD Audios have a 'multi channel stereo' kind of mix. The vocals are in all speakers(very annoying IMO), as are 80% of the instruments. Most of the time; not very discrete at all, with some nice stuff here and there.

The concerts are TERRIBLE.

Yes the Signals just sounds bad in every way. What a missed chance on a GREAT album. The song 2112 (side 1) in 5.1 doesn't sound as bad as the Signals but the mix just wasn't as creative and active as it could have been...the other songs are mixed better.

You guys are killing me. I bought Rush Moving Pictures upon release.....I remember listening to it and being pretty disappointed. haven't listened to it since....I'm gonna have to dig it out and see what's up.....or if I now feel differently.

I will say I feel surrounded with "2112". I like it better than "Moving Pictures". I did not expect much with either these two discs but was surprised by "2112" and will be listening to it more than I've heard "Moving Pictures" about 4 times now. 3 times when I first purchased it, and once last night. When I play these two albums, I would rather listen to the surround versions instead of two channels. Again, I'm not saying they are perfect. Only better than nothing or listening in stereo, to me.

Don't get me wrong...I understand that the hi rez releases are better than those remastered CD's...BUT...and I'm not taking issue with you or your statement.. because that is true....but Rush surely can do better than "don't sound too bad"...I was just playing Steve Miller's Fly Like An Eagle...and let's be honest here...Steve Miller doesn't have near the catalog or prestige that Rush has...not even in the same zip code in popularity...but his band managed to produce a DTS CD that crushes anything in the surround realm that Rush has ever produced IMO...it's not even close...and I LOVE Rush...but the sad truth is they produce mediocre hi rez recordings...and it just shouldn't be that way...the sad part is the masters that they had available had good dynamic range in the beginning..they just had the wrong people working on this material....or maybe the band influenced the people that worked on the sound quality to tailor the sound a certain way...when the mix is bad it's not always the fault of the mixer...there is a lot of micromanagement that goes on in these productions...you can see by the earlier recordings that they had a good DR base for most of their albums HERE
