The DTS CDs that I ripped using the RIP menu item in Foobar - both before I installed the decoder and after installing the decoder, resulted in files that produced static upon playback on other devices. When I used the method I describe - I got 6-channel flacs that playback just fine on all of my multichannel-capable devices, and show as PCM only - no DTS involved at that point.

Warchild - dvd 2 - "the Second Act"....I dig the orchestral themes presented on this extra disc. I'll likely reach for disc 2 more often than the main album.....although the flat transfer of the original quad is damn good too.

Foobar2000 with it's DTS decoder plug-in rips and converts a DTS-CD in a single action. That's pretty straight forward.

Snood all confused - what plug in - all SNood gets is static when ripping my dts. If ya like static it sounds awesome, but would rather get some tunes out of it

When go to convert to flac it gives me option to folder then windows ask me to locate flac.exe and snoo dis like whaaa??

I think Snood has to install FLAC Frontend together with the one Perpendicular mentioned and when Foobar asks for flac.exe go to the root folder of flac frontend and select flac.exe (you only have to do this once).

I just Downloaded that but it only makes the album as one track - I have to convert track by track - not sure what I am doing wrong. HMMMM - I am getting sound - altho no metadata Pictures - no big there

Also wanna make sure exactly where do I point the Flac frontend what file..............Yeah SNood is stupid 8P

Thanks tho - making some progress

Oh also do I put any - do I add any processing feature like downmix channels to stereo?? Well I got them converted one by one as Lossless Flac 5.1 surround- is that possible?? LOL no pics tho oh well

Off topic...but I'm freaking excited....I just placed an order for a new AVR. Denon AVR-X4000. Should be a lot of fun.....my current Denon AVR-988 is outdated...and I gain 125 watts/channel vs current 110 watts/channel. Well, OK - not significant...but it is an increase. And....tons of other features I currently don't have....and it will be utilized for SURROUND!!

When you select a file and press convert...in the pop-up screen go to destination and select Convert each track to an individual file. Settings.jpg

Flac.exe is in the folder you installed it, mine is here: C:\Program Files (x86)\FLAC Frontend\tools

OK got it doing one track at a time - for some reason the Steve Miller DTS was tricky

Its not perfect - dunno why it not doing th MP3 maybe cant do both at once.

Thank you

Congratulations! Always a great audio time whenever new equipment is purchased. Have fun.

Snood has 1.3.3 - can u direct me to that path please to make sure??

FYI: 1.3.6 is the latest version. You may want to update Foobar. Though, it's not important, right now, for what you are trying to accomplish.

Jan will have to help you with your problem. I'm not sure what he's trying to tell you and cannot figure it out without any DTS files close by.

I think your trying to get to the converter menu. Is this right? If so, follow these steps.

Highlight all your DTS tracks within Foobar. Then, right click your mouse. From there you will find the Converter Setup menu and click on Destination. From here, you can choose what you need.

So, in a nutshell:

Highlight tracks-> Right Click Mouse-> Choose Convert-> Then ...-> Then Destination

This post is going to confuse other members if you don't give more info. So your not ripping your dts-cd into dts flac? Like I said before, dts-cd is the same as a regular cd. No special tools or plugins are needed to rip to flac. However, when you play back, you must have bit perfect playback. I use wasapi since my pc is windows 8. I play back using musicbee and rip using foobar (used to use EAC).

So what format is your 6 channel flacs? What other multichannel-capable devices are you using? Are your file sizes larger than a normal 700 mb CD? The no dts involved at that point leaves me scratching my head. Glad it's working for you but it seems like something is being made more complicated than it needs to be.

Curious why you brought up mp3 when the discussion involves DTS. Yes they are both lossy compressions, but they have nothing in common in this discussion.

Firstly, I installed the latest Foobar and then the latest DTS input decoder.

When I do File > Open Audio Cd, select a CD, and then select the "Rip" button - I get files that produce noise on playback, even if I use the "Convert" options within the ripping sequence. If, however, I use the "Play" button rather than the "Rip" button to open the CD, I can stop playback and use the convert menu item on the context ("right click") menu to create the files and get playable files that produce no noise on playback.

Track bitrates and file sized across 3 ripped discs vary widely, with bitrates running in the 1k-2.5k range. File sizes vary accordingly.

My goal was to NOT make a bit-perfect rip of the disc. Instead, I wanted flac files which contained the OUTPUT of the DTS decoder that was installed.

When I use the RIP mode of foobar2000, the resulting flac files from a dts-cd play fine for me in foobar and musicbee. I output spdif optical to my processor. I don't have or need the dts decoder in foobar2000. On my other pc I have an older 5.1 analog output and I do need the dts decoder for the analog out decoding. The point is, the dts decoder in foobar2000 has nothing to do with the ripping process only the playback.

What players/playback method are you using specifically.

I can play the DTS CDs directly using Foobar or on my Oppo via my AVR (Pioneer Elite SC-87).
I cannot play the DTS CDs directly using JRiver (not in DLNA mode - but local playback on the PC)

When I use the Rip button to rip the disc to flac - I get the exact same result. Playability in Foobar and my Oppo/AVR, but not playable on JRiver.
This result is the same whether or not I use the conversion option during ripping.

When I use the other method that I described (play disc, stop playback, select all tracks in disc playlist, right-mouse>>convert) what comes out is playable on everything I have that supports multichannel flac - including JRiver.
