The 'Ooo....Tommy on...SACD...(never found it on DVD-A....also I am not a very big fan of this album...so what am I doin' listening to it?...CAUSE I FEEL LIKE IT!!!!...and any chance to hear the Ox is good)

Got me envious...so I pulled out my homebrewed SQ LP conversion on LPCM 4.0 DVD-A....I think it's a better mix than "Birds of Fire".....

Back to this again - thanks Kap'n :)

And then straight into a fantastic transfer of the SQ LP of The Taj Mahal Travellers July 12 1972. Having grown up with The Orb I'm hearing where they learnt some pointers!

Azteca-S/T
Homebrewed Conversion from SQ in 96/24....
Through the Logic...Extra EQ-a tad of bass @ 90Hz/1.1 octave and treble @ 7.4K(shelving) and a dip in the mids @560/0,24 Octave (all of them no more than 3 dB) does wonders!!!
...ok...and a bit of exciter..but only a tiny bit!!!
Killer sounding!!

Claire De Lune (Debussy)-Isao Tomita (from SACD)
Through Logic Pro with some Harmonic Exciter added (for her pleasure)...hope the tweeters don't burn out from the noise above 23 K....

Gentle Giant (from DTS 96/24)
With the "correct" channel placement -courtesy of AoQ- through Logic Pro...with slight EQ (sounds too flat to me otherwise)....

The Beatles Abbey Road (levitalone1 made me crave for it), DTSCD 5.0 mix supposedly 24 bit remastered, its pretty good

Just dug out Magenta's "Chameleon Project" DVD for it's first listen in a long, long time. Very enjoyable it is too. Only DD, but Rob Reed certainly knows what he's doing and manages to make it sound fabulous regardless. Is it too much of an exaggeration to suggest that he's as good at this 5.1 malarkey as Mr. Wilson?

Will be listening to my newly acquired Gentle Giant 4.1 albums next...

You know what, I don't think I've ever played that disc, only the CD. Will have to rectify that!

I've not played it anything like enough and really enjoyed my run through yesterday; the mixing is exceptional. Also seems to be still available from Magenta's on-line store (under the Chameleon project.)

Will give Seven a spin tonight, I think.

We are on the same level here Neil, I played Seven yesterday and Chameleon a few days ago :) and yes, Rob Reed is an excellent surround mixer. Looking forward to hearing more of his work.

Sundown - Gordon Lightfoot again. Perhaps the best Quad album.

Saw him on Jimmy Fallon night before last. His voice is shot, as it has been for years. I saw him several times at Ravinia, and at the Desert Inn in Vegas before they demolished it for the Wynn. I miss the Vega of old.

Is the music of the Chameleon project good? I don't like Seven and can't get into it. It has strong Genesis influences but for me it's too much and the same melodies and riffs are used and then it sounds like an imitation. I have Kompendium which I do like, so is Chameleon in the same vein?

Just finished the long and arduous task of digitizing the bulk of my MC collection (no SACD unfortunately) into multichannel Flac files. I can now, with my relatively recent acquisition of the Oppo BDP 103, wirlessly stream uncompressed multichannel audio from my upstairs office computer to my home theater set-up in the downstairs family room. Today, is the first day, that I have been able to enjoy, unencumbered by requests to "please turn it down," the fruits of my labor or as my wife insists, my OCD.

I was able to accomplish this using a combination of DVD Audio Extractor, Audiomuxer, and Foobar. All of the content is stored on a WD Elements 3TB external hard drive (with duplicate drive for back-up). Each flac file is embedded with hirez artwork and the ID tag edited to allow me to assign my own genres (MC progressive, rock, etc) and maintain consistency in Artist assignments. Today, I have Multichannel Progressive in shuffle mode - allowing me to rediscover some of the gems I have either neglected or have perhaps passed off as inferior/not worthy of my time. The only real drawback to this is the lack gapless flac playback in the Oppo - not a dealbreaker however. I did contact Oppo and they claim to be working on a possible solution. All things being equal, I have extracted all the various codecs - DTS, Dolby, DTS HD MA, Dolby Tru HD, DVD Audio both in 4.0 and 5.1 - and with exception of some variations in volume levels they alll play, suprisingly enough, well together.

I still have all my hard copies, and barring some unforeseen circumstance, will hold on to them. This process however, is quite the elegant solution to accessing my evergrowing MC collection without having to get up off of my sorry ass. Now playing, Dream Theaters "In The Presence of Enemies - Part II" from "Systematic Chaos." - haven't listened to this for years - sounds pretty damn good for Dolby!
