have you got JMJ's "Aero" DTS DVD (comes with a free CD you can use as an attractive drinks' coaster!)..?
the surround mix is WILD...!! I love it!
I do have that, yes, and it is a very good mix.
I recall reading an interview with JMJ where he went on about how 5.1 was great and felt a more natural way of listening to music, and yet he's not really gone all out to embrace it. Both 'Aero' and 'Oxygene: The New Master' are complete re-recordings, presumably to get around the whole falling out with Dreyfuss, and they're good, but I feel a proper revisiting of all of his work in 5.1 is long overdue.
Thing is, after the debacle with 'Oxygene: TNM', it'd take a bit of bridge building to get my trust back. At the time of release, his website was promoting 3 versions. Version 1 was to be a regular stereo RBCD. Version 2 was to be an SACD M/C Hybrid and a DVD of the live performance of Oxygene. Version 3 was supposed to be the same as version 2 but with the added bonus of the live performance in 3D. His website was quite specific about these contents and so I figured I'd just buy the 3rd version and get everything. As it turned out, the only version that lived up to billing was the first, regular CD. The SACD never materialised. Instead, the 2 disc set comprised of the regular CD and a DVD that had the 2D version of the concert and the studio album in 5.1 DD and DTS. The third version was even more annoying. It contained the regular CD, a DVD with the film in 3D but it omitted the 5.1 studio album mix that was on the the 2 disc set! So, if you were a fan, and wanted the complete package, you had to buy two versions. That stuck in my throat somewhat, as is clearly evidenced by me still feeling bitter and cheated all these years on! LOL It just smacked of cynical marketing, and none of my polite correspondence was ever replied to. Live and learn, I guess.
As it turns out, I now have a couple of friends that are acquaintances of JMJ and work with him on & off. I am still biding my time so that maybe one day I can ask him myself! ;-)
But yes, 'Aero' is a good album and putting the video on with the staring eyes properly unnerves the missus ;-)
