have you got JMJ's "Aero" DTS DVD (comes with a free CD you can use as an attractive drinks' coaster!)..?
the surround mix is WILD...!! I love it! :p

I do have that, yes, and it is a very good mix.

I recall reading an interview with JMJ where he went on about how 5.1 was great and felt a more natural way of listening to music, and yet he's not really gone all out to embrace it. Both 'Aero' and 'Oxygene: The New Master' are complete re-recordings, presumably to get around the whole falling out with Dreyfuss, and they're good, but I feel a proper revisiting of all of his work in 5.1 is long overdue.

Thing is, after the debacle with 'Oxygene: TNM', it'd take a bit of bridge building to get my trust back. At the time of release, his website was promoting 3 versions. Version 1 was to be a regular stereo RBCD. Version 2 was to be an SACD M/C Hybrid and a DVD of the live performance of Oxygene. Version 3 was supposed to be the same as version 2 but with the added bonus of the live performance in 3D. His website was quite specific about these contents and so I figured I'd just buy the 3rd version and get everything. As it turned out, the only version that lived up to billing was the first, regular CD. The SACD never materialised. Instead, the 2 disc set comprised of the regular CD and a DVD that had the 2D version of the concert and the studio album in 5.1 DD and DTS. The third version was even more annoying. It contained the regular CD, a DVD with the film in 3D but it omitted the 5.1 studio album mix that was on the the 2 disc set! So, if you were a fan, and wanted the complete package, you had to buy two versions. That stuck in my throat somewhat, as is clearly evidenced by me still feeling bitter and cheated all these years on! LOL ;) It just smacked of cynical marketing, and none of my polite correspondence was ever replied to. Live and learn, I guess.

As it turns out, I now have a couple of friends that are acquaintances of JMJ and work with him on & off. I am still biding my time so that maybe one day I can ask him myself! ;-)

But yes, 'Aero' is a good album and putting the video on with the staring eyes properly unnerves the missus ;-)

Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused To Sing

Same here!!! DTS version though...
I must say I am REALLY impressed with this one...amazing value for your money, I was NOT expecting the 40 page booklet (which I thought was only on the DELUXE version)...
I'm still on "Luminol", Nick Beggs ROCKS and they let him have a "John Entwistle" sound!!!!

Will report later...liking it already....and as I've said before, I am not very moved by SW/PT's stuff...this one has more depth....AP definitely had something to do with this...

Great album, including I Mean to Shine, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6eonE_qF08 an unreleased Steely Dan song. Where's the bass?

Agreed on all counts :)

Beggs is nailing it on this one, but I've always rated him highly. His "comedy fall" in the documentary still has me in fits! LOL As a drummer myself though, it's Marco Minnemann's performance that really causes my jaw to drop. Absolutely stunning.

The album is a total success on every count, from the song-writing to the performances, to the recording and the production, and ultimately the mixes. As for the packaging, it's all outstanding. And to be able to buy an exemplary multi-channel album at a sensible price is a nice and welcome change ;) I seriously need to upgrade both my systems to Blu Ray, if only to accommodate this album alone.

Now, how does one go about creating a poll for this album? I see the BR version has one, but not the DVD-V one. Can anyone start a poll or does it have to be an admin?

A poll can be started only by the Moderator of that particular forum (listed at the bottom of each forum), or by Jon Urban. Bob Romano, Ed Bishop and Neil Wilkes moderate various polls within their respective forums.

Now reacquainting myself with this little gem. Forgotten how beautifully chilled and laid back this album is. And it's a real DVD-A 5.1 treat :)

Small Faces "Mods In Surround" ... It's a 5.1 lossless DTS-MA. It's available, but to find it you'll probably have to turn on the heet or go look for your kat....

Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused To Sing

keep hoping the music grows on me a little more

Another spin. If I do end up giving the album a 6 or 7 in the poll it certainly isn't because I didn't give it a fair chance!

Joni Mitchell - Hissing Of Summer Lawns CD4 transfer. So many great tracks but the dynamics on 'Harry's House/Centerpiece are incredible. Demonstration quality indeed.

Somewhere in a vault lies a 5.1 Blue master gathering dust. Sigh.

Mahavishnu Orchestra - Between Nothingness and Eternity SQ LP transfer. First time listener to this but it won't be the last! Quadtastic.

Got me envious...so I pulled out my homebrewed SQ LP conversion on LPCM 4.0 DVD-A....I think it's a better mix than "Birds of Fire".....
