Griot Liberte - Buster Williams (Hybrid MultiCh SACD).

I bought this on the recommendation of reviews over at sa-cd.net saying it was a great discrete surround mix.. well its not that great, a lot of the time it's double stereo, there's some weird illogical pans of drums and things from front to back but it really doesn't work for me.

Plus (sacrilege to some, I'm sure) it doesn't help in my enjoyment of the disc that it's the kind of jazz that's bordering on the plinky-plonky at times.. there are times where its almost like the old piano's been chucked down the stairs it's got that kind of vibe to it, if you know what I mean.

Let It Go! - Deitra Farr (Hybrid MultiCh SACD).

Now this is more like it! Another superb JSP Blues disc... the usual (excellent) JSP surround mix with discrete horns and keys and stuff in the rear, lead vocals sounding gorgeous hard in the centre with muted vocal ambience front left & right, just how 5.1 should be done.. the only mixer I let off the hook for not doing it that way is my favourite mixer, Elliot Scheiner (who isn't big on lead vox hard in the centre) but done properly like Greg Penny on the EJ mixes and how the JSP guys did it.. 5.1 this way is just superb.

Can't post the "now" - as when I am "listening" I am generally not reading or posting ;)

(Very) recently completed listening session (all in Surround):
Lavinia Meijer plays Philip Glass (sacd)
Caravan's "In the Land of Grey and Pink" (multichannel flac from DVD-A)
KC Symphony plays Elgar's "Enigma Variations" and Williams' "Wasps" (sacd)
Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" (multichannel flac from BD)

Spent this morning doing laundry while cranking Katatonia's Dethroned & Uncrowned (4.1 DVD-A) followed by Opeth's Heritage (DTS). Both of these continue to grow on me especially the Katatonia... Just sounds wonderful turned up loud!

Been listening to ' Historie du Melodie Nelson' and 'Drive Home' by a mr Wilson in surround, and Never mind the Bollocks in stereo br.
Wifes out so cranked up good and propper, good evening so far
