Jarre in China: jaw dropping 5.1 mix and sound, even if it's DTS at 48 KHz. Never been a great Jarre fan, but this DVD is captivating me!
As I'm listening to a copy, now I must get the original one. For those who have it, how's the image quality? Can you tell me the image resolution?

A sampler with 12 excellent jazzy tracks from the Multichannel SACD series done by Concord Jazz. Excellent variety here, it will have you looking for the source SACDs for the sampler - if you don't own them already!

Concord Super Audio CD Sampler, Volume 1 (Concord Jazz Multichannel SACD-1032)

You can pick up a copy on eBay new for around $40 - and the same price used via Amazon.Com

Just a word of mild caution - while I truly enjoy this disc & would jump at any opportunity to see Junior perform live, this is for the most part, straight ahead, roadhouse country music ala Merle Haggard - with a few heavy doses of corn. With the exception of the few uptempo tracks where Junior cuts loose, it's a pretty laid back affair. Like Brian says, its an excellent recording with some discrete elements that are in line with the style of music.

Thank you for the extra info and a great 2nd opinion (y)

The mix isn't strictly ambient, with some nice musical accents in the surround channels. But the focus is on the vocals and they are very clear and compelling. My favorite Jacintha Multichannel SACD is her bossa nova album. But this one has excellent performances and sonics as well.

Positive Feedback's review of the SACD notes "This album is a sheer joy to listen to from the first note. This may be Jacintha's best album yet. The silky, smooth, and sensuous voice of Jacintha is reproduced with an utterly natural quality, revealing every nuance of her phenomenal intonation, phrasing, breath control, and vocal modulation."

IIRC one or two of the Jacintha SACDs are a bit more expensive nowadays but I'll seek them all out in time. Thanks once again, you're a veritable Surroundopedia! :D

You have intrigued me - but my Amazon searches only turn up Region 2 editions. Does anyone know if there was a Region 1 edition produced?

(This seems perfect for a Blu Ray edition!)

The Fixx's 1011 Woodland disc must be the best kept secret in the surround world. Probably because its from Silverline which has a reputation for putting out an awful lot of terrible surround titles. Like IMachine says..... no effects, but very discrete. Nicely mixed to envelop the listener in a discreet sound field. It also has excellent sonics, worthy video content, a great menu, and content that has been largely overlooked. Stand or Fall, One thing or Another, and Saved by Zero are killer tunes. This is a surround reference disc for me.

Its was a steal at the $10 I paid for it. I think this might have ended up on Silverline because its actually a re-recording by the band of previously released material. Silverline is living proof that even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

Snood needs a cold shower after all that hot stuff going on above
