Perla Barocca (SACD)

Rachel Podger, violin
Marcin Swiatkiewicz, harpsichord/organ
Daniele Caminiti, theorbo

I was going to give Rachel's Rosary disc a spin, but came across this one first. It's a wonderful collection of early baroque pieces that will surely please anyone who likes her Biber recording. Along with her fabulous playing, I especially appreciate the variety of accompaniment, from harpsichord to organ to theorbo.

Are there any surround recordings of Monteverdi's Vespers that are must-hears?
I agree with Ralphie about Robert King & The King's Consort recording on Hyperion SACD. It's a solid performance. The only weak point is surround mix. As with many Hyperion surround mixes, the rears are only ambient (fairly quiet type). The center channel is active, though. And it's not a bad mix. The soundstage is realistic, but front heavy.

Another good choice is Challenge Classics recording of La Petite Bande / Sigiswald Kuijken

It's a more intimate performance rather than a full out baroque bonanza. The surround mix is ambient but IMHO the rear channels seem to add more realistic depth to the overall soundstage.

If you're open to other music from the same era as Monteverdi, Polychoral Splendour offers an excellent discrete surround mix of music by Heinrich Schütz and Giovanni Gabrieli.

One thing we need to change not seeing the votes until you get to vote and or until vote counts reach ten. It would have stopped me wasting my money on Les Miserables
I could have seen
1 7 ,
2 6
and 1 4 would never have bought it.

this may also partially be my fault, as i said on here 6 years ago that it was genuine surround sound. it is the real thing, its not an upmix, its just an underwhelming mix! 🤣

The problem with those Universal BD~As ..... they're rather inexpensive when they come out [usually under $20] and are then yanked off the market just as quickly and then command OOP prices so 'pre conditioning' suggests buy them before you even know the quality.....or risk paying outrageous prices down the road.

The BD~A of LES MIS ...... IS [sonically] MISERABLE!

After 30 years of renting, I finally sat down in my new home tonight and tried out for the first time ever, over here:
