Been a productive day living life in surround, after receiving my new/used Denon AVR yesterday (to replace my failing 12 year old Onkyo) I bought it through a Amazon warehouse deal (saved $82 woohoo!) after the excitement wore off and I removed it from the box and stated the swap I realized something wasn't quite right and put my glasses on so I could read the model number and low and behold...wrong AVR , right box wrong AVR . Received Denon AVR-X1300W ($430) ordered Denon AVR-X3600S ($1002) immediately filed for a refund/return (couldn't replace it since it was a warehouse deal). Well since I had already pulled the Onkyo and was halfway through with the the speaker hookup I went ahead and finished setting up the 1300. I went ahead and ordered a new 3600 (no more warehouse deals) which is supposed to be here Sunday I wont get my refund til I send the 1300 back so I decided I will use this one to get familiar with Denon and will send it back when the new one is here and installed. So......
Listened in surround today:

Rolling Stones - Goats Head Soup Blu-ray Dolby TrueHD 5.1 (had to switch thru the sound modes to select Dolby TrueHD on the Denon, didn't pick it up the first time)
Barklay James Harvest - and other stories DVDV DTS 24/96 5.1
Elton John - Madman Across the Water SACD 5.1
Earth Wind and Fire - Spirit & That's The Way Of The World SACD 4.0
Billy Paul - 360 Degrees Of Billy Paul & War OF The Gods SACD 4.0
Stick Men - Prog Noir Blu-ray DTS-HD MA 5.1 (4.0 eventually)
Magenta - Master Of Illusion DVDV DTS + Neural X (why? I'm not sure, Denon chose it)
Pineapple Thief - Versions Of The Truth Blu-ray Blu-ray DTS- HD MA

Poop happens, the little Denon they mistakenly sent me is actually pretty nice so far, but a little under powered @ 80 watts vs 90 on the Onkyo and 105 from the Denon I actually ordered plus it is a 9.2 ATMOS AVR so now I need to invest in more speakers! Have been a little backed up so everything on my list was being played the first time in surround except Elton he's been to the party many times before (y)

You're killin' me man ::LOL: Will it play 4.0 (straight Quad) files also?
Yes, 4.0 too although I remix to 5.1 with center and LFE dark. The software in my Audi flips ch 3 & 4 when the source is 4 ch. I use sox and remix 1 2 0 0 3 4. I could remix 1 2 4 3 but then I’d have a file customized for playback only in my Audi.

About that 4.0-5.1 fix I do so that BL and BR channels playback correctly behind my back in the A4 ...
Nearly all of the quad media that comes my way arrives prepackaged as 5.1 audio. I've only had to convert audio from some Blu-ray discs (Chicago Quadio Box, Best of the Doors, Lennon Imagine 2018, PF's Dark Side of the Moon Box, and PF's Wish You Were Here Box). BTW, I'm only listening to FLAC files. I don't swap any discs in the Audi although the 2018 disc reader accepts CD, CD-ROM, DVD-R/RW, DVD-Video and DVD-Audio (not SACD or Blu-ray); specs look the same to me in the 2020 Q5 manual.

You and Mrs. Pupster will likely enjoy the B&O. I use the 3-D setting to lift the sound vertically and I turn off of the surround enhancement when playing from my MCH card. Having the B&O with the driver assist option makes slow traffic easily entertaining. Once I discovered what the B&O could do, my Audi has become my mancave-on-wheels. It has been a thrill to rediscover old tunes in a new setting. But if you're not rolling and are just enjoying the tunes parked in the garage, you'll need a battery tender (I learned that lesson in March while learning how to stay-at-home).

I think we've gotten a bit off-topic in this forum. Feel free to PM me or start a topic in the mobile audio forum. I'm curious to know how you plan to curate your audio files for enjoyment on the road.

Even though you're awaiting your NEW computer, nice to see you're keeping up with the Joneses, Clement!
Man, do i miss your witty wordplay, RAMan! A NEW computer? Not gonna happen--I can't afford it with education fees and, well, let's be honest--surround sound purchases! As soon as i return home from my practicum at the clinic, i kick the missus outta the living room and crank up the tunes! All three of these babies arrived this week!

And plenty more coming down the pipe--at least i can stay QQ connected during my lunch breaks at the clinic! Stay Surrounded, Comrades!
