Damn - I don't have this one either......

Well, why NOT, Gene? Although the surrounds are mostly ambient, ALL the duets are super superb as are the exquisite orchestrations and producer Phil Ramone has likewise done a spectacular job in overseeing a very fine production.

Sadly, Tony has lost his voice and is suffering from Alzheimers so adding this wonderful SACD to your collection would be a lasting tribute to that once glorious Bennett legacy.

Zappa - QuAUDIOPHILIAc

Really great collection for the Zappa fan. Great surround mixes too.

(Much more essential than the “Halloween” disc that was released around the same time... IMO)

So, I ask for a lot of classical stuff from DV, and order it right away, but sometimes take a while to actually sit down and listen to it. I'd actually listened to the Rite of Spring off this disc earlier, but hadn't listened to the complete Firebird yet. So I fixed that tonight. I'm really glad I did too - dynamic performance, great sound quality and an active quad mix.

Unlike the Rite of Spring, which doesn't need (and doesn't have) a "suite" version, I tend to think the 1919 Firebird Suite is the best way to hear the highlights of the score - there's a lot of music here that's interesting but clearly meant to accompany ballet rather than be listened to on its own. That said, the complete ballet is still a fascinating experience, and it isn't that long either.

I did hear some noises in the surround channels, especially in the beginning of The Firebird, I wasn't sure if it was static or noise from people moving. It wasn't too distracting but I noticed it a bit, and it seemed to disappear as the piece went on. Highly recommended.
