Never really got into this album on cd - hearing it in surround is something else - suddenly a favourite :)

Earlier I watched/listened to Paul McCartney - The Space Within....what an outstanding concert. I'd hate to say how many times you could read people's lips...saying "wow"...as if they were in awe. Especially the folks in the first 15 rows...man...can you imagine being that close to Paul and his band? That would be a life changer for me.

Whenever I need a Beatle fix....I play that concert...or just parts of it.....and usually I hate the constant shots of the crowd...but that concert is the exception...the expressions on the faces in the crowd tell the story...so much emotion...you can see it on their faces...they are thinking about "days gone by" and rekindling memories...what an inspired performance...and they all know the words...TO EVERY SONG...it's so cool to see young kids with their dads and in some cases grandparents...loving the same music..everytime I watch it I have to hear Eleanor Rigby several times in a row...the only negative thing about the concert is those segments in between songs...I just skip chapters..but it would be nice if they weren't there...

Great album, I do like the song that is playing a lot, I used to by my daughter train sets in Lego, no dolls! And she turned out just fine :)

You know you are seeing something special when other artists are in the crowd...Billy Joel singing along in the crowd(y)

Porcupine Tree has been on the menu and what a feast it is, such good stuff that Steven Wilson and rest of band put together.

Stupid Dream
Lightbulb Sun
In Absentia
Deadwing
Fear of a Blank Planet
The Incident

Have been listening to all these over past week in my car, awesome stuff, all of them have something special to offer and the extra songs are all good as well.

GOS, did you notice (assume you have the blu ray?) the "jukebox" feature on the disc, allowing you to program up to 10 of your favourite songs? Way cool I thought, wish it was on every concert disc. It would be very effective in cutting out Roger's rantings on The Wall concert ;)

Gearing up for the Moody Blues concert this Sunday night by spinning the SACD of "Days of Future Passed".
I absolutely love the album and the Quadraphonic mix, but I would love to hear the mix from a flatter transfer from tape as it definitely appears that the balance between the front and the surround channels is not always as it should be.
Probably more compression applied to the front channels during the remastering process which is it was is making them sound louder a lot of the time.

Like I said, it's still great, but it just goes to show you how time and other releases can change your point of view on something. :)

I've been listening to the newly acquired Carpenters Singles 1969-81 SACD...and then I have been comparing it to the Carpenters Singles 1969-73 SHM-SACD...of course the 69-81 SACD is surround and the SHM-SACD isn't...this is by far the toughest comparison I have ever attempted to make...after several hours I can say it's a dead heat...both offer different positives....the surround aspect really isn't a difference maker...not in a discreet sense...it's a very conservative approach which is probably the best way to approach this kind of music...an aggressive mix wouldn't blend well with the content...but what it does "in spots" is open up the vocals to an incredible level and clarity...which the SHM can't match...but there is a price for that clarity..the instruments are very bright right after the vocal heights...this is where the SHM shines...it's as smooth as silk on a consistent basis...no peaks and valleys like the surround version...you can crank the SHM version and not feel that brightness that the instruments display in the surround version..I had hoped to keep just one of these discs...but that isn't possible at this stage...

Still my favourite BD concert, and I have some good ones...Jethro Tull - Live in Montreux 2003 in DTS HD Master 5.1 Listening to Martin Barre's guitar work on "Empty Cafe" is worth the price of admission, it sounds so sweet to my ears. :music
