CHARLES GERHARDT & NATIONAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA • STAR WARS & CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND
[SACD Hybrid Multi-Channel]

I'm unabashedly a HUGE fan of conductor/arranger Charles Gerhardt film score series for RCA Red Seal and D~V has provided us with the creme de la creme in stunning QUAD SACD transfers from the original analogue masters.

And now comes these exquisite John William's scores from both STAR WARS and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS sumptuously recorded by ace DECCA engineer Kenneth Wilkinson in the grand acoustics of UK's Kingsway Hall and brought to new life by Michael J. Dutton himself who had access to the multitrack masters and remixed them in QUAD for this very special release.

HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION and thank you Michael for another brilliant addition to your ever expanding QUAD reissue series.

Duran Duran DANCE MACABRE [SONY MUSIC/PURE BD~A 2.0/5.1/Dolby ATMOS] Bob Clearmountain has clearly created a most gratifying discrete remix with this latest SDE exclusive. While hardly harking back to DD's ole days of POP bon bons like Hungry like the Wolf, Rio or Girls on Film, a new direction for the group finds them in fine musical form ...... most especially on Talking Heads' PSYCHO KILLER ...... for me the highlight!

Hoping that SDE can access and have Duran Duran's classic 80's albums remixed in Surround and perhaps include some of those classic MTV videos which put them on the charts...and kept them there throughout the 80's!

We have a LOT of old 5.1 music dvd's, so while shoveling through a bunch we decided on this one.👌5.1 dolby digital mixed by a dude named Thom Cadley. He did a pretty good job. Not bad at all! Anyway, recommended if in the mood for some older soft rock stuff. Have a great night all ~

Thom Cadley's a longtime member of QQ! 😍 he did some great 5.1 mixes back during the SACD/DVD-A format wars and in the days of DualDisc, as well as a number of DVD Video Collections and Concerts 🤩 not sure if he's working in Atmos now? i hope so!

We only have this one from him on that list there. Going to look for the Rod Stewart and Cash/ At Folsom Prison now. Thank you Fred! ...and Thom too!👌

He did the initial Atmos remix of John Mayer's Sob Rock that was so surround-y that Mayer had it pulled, remixed by someone else under his supervision and replaced on the streaming services. It's a shame too because the original version is superb, like so many of @ThomC 's old 5.1 mixes and the new one isn't much more than big stereo plus.

Recordings like that are why I buy surround music. It makes uo for all the mediocre stuff I’ve bought in the past.
I know exactly what you mean! This is a fantastic Quad album. The mix utilizes all 4 speakers actively to create a natural, well-balanced listening experience in surround sound. It makes it all worthwhile, doesn’t it!
