I think I was the only one that played both disco and rock. All my friends hated disco. The girlfriends liked it. Then, came New Wave and I had a different set of friends, altogether. :hi
I was working in a Rock club nights and going to school for Industrial Electronics under the GI bill when the club changed to a disco, lighted dance floor and everything. Had to get my hair styled (needed the job). It sucked, 'cause instead of throwing out drunks I was explaining to guys why jeans and cords weren't approved wear.
So we went from Molly Hatchet live to a dance floor full of triacs and flashing lights underfoot. Great sound system on the floor with super sounding Altec speakers. My girl loved the place. lol.

you're welcome, Jeff ss.
its worth a try you've nothing to lose decoding the Stereo LP of Family Reunion but I doubt it would be SQ when there's a separate SQ-encoded Quad LP.

i have Family Reunion in a couple of CD masterings and neither of them resemble the Quad LP, which has drier lead vocals than the Stereo for one thing.

the Walter Murphy Quad was only ever a very limited Q8 release, no CD-4 or encoded LP afaik., so you might have a tough time tracking that one down, a very good conversion circulated at one time but not sure if it's still out there. the others range from pretty plentiful/easy to obtain on SQ vinyl (Black & Blue, Eargasm, Philadelphia Freedom) to scarce (Electrified Funk, Go For Your Guns, Rated EXtraordinaire) several of these Quads had no Q8 discrete option (Eargasm, Energy To Burn, Family Reunion, Philadelphia Freedom, Wake Up Everybody) so its SQ with all its limitations and quirks or bust!

oh and i forgot to mention there's also an excellent Quad (SQ LP only) of the O'Jays "Survival" which is very hard to find but worth it. if you have MCh Flac playback capability i can send you a couple of sample clips from the Family Reunion SQ Quad LP so you can compare with your Stereo LP, just let me know by PM or something? all the best 😊

Sorry Fredums (in advance )........but I never liked Disco much....all the girlfriends did though.

A couple Disco quads unmentioned I know of though are :

Gloria Gaynor -Experience (first edition only ) QS
Average White Band-2nd album CD-4, Q8

Just couldn't relate to that sound. But for those.... girls....... I just pretended !!

OK so I don't know if this is a rule breaker but... today I spent a huuuge amount of time cutting 2 holes in my audio cabinet and installing a pair of AP-15 120mm fans run from a 4.5v transformer. Very quiet. Used to be in my huuuuuge Case Labs pc cabinet.
ANYWAY back to breaking the rules/not....while working on the cabinet I wanted to listen to Savoy Brown Street Corner Talking & Hellbound Train. Although they did not come out in surround, these are two of the hundreds of
albums I upmixed from stereo using Plogue Bidule & SPEC.
I forgot how much I loved that old British, bluesy stuff, and the upmixes were decent enough. So I played SB on the bedroom pc system and grooved while moving/reconnecting 9000000 unlabeled wires to the HTPC & audio components. :geek:

I loved Disco...I still do...but all my Rock buddies would have been upset if they knew about it back in the day....the additional benefit was that as several posters mentioned...women loved disco...and I loved them(y)...less competition for me...and the music was so upbeat...I think women loved it because it gave them the "excuse" to dress up....and being stoned in a disco club with all those flashing lights and women...c'mon...it doesn't get much better:cool:

Two of my favourite Savoy Brown albums.
listen to them quite often fwiw.

Too bad London/Deram/Parrot Records released only but one of their discs in quad...."Jack The Toad ".

All discs prior to Jack The Toad are a must listen and would be fantastic in either quad or 5.1.
BTW, the song.."Where Am I " fr A Step Further....is quite unique quad surrounding with the bongo circulating my speakers almost naturally.

Anyways I think they are so mistakenly underrated , and find them an exceptional early British Blues Rock band.

Completely agree about Agents of Fortune - it's not the super-discrete 5.1 experience that I think most of us would favour, but sonically it's leagues above the stereo version, and even though the surround is tame it's still immersive.

Tom and his Heartbreakers playing the entire Last DJ album live in downtown LA. Supported by a string orchestra.

Crap dvd pq. But the dts soundtrack is very nice, not discrete, but enough support from the rears to be immersive.

I love the Last DJ album, but the cd with a DR of 6 (WHY????) - does not sound good - this dvd is a very much better choice.

Quite a varied afternoon listening with my son. First Heavy Horses followed by Goldfrapp's Supernature and now Sgt Peppers. I've enabled DTS:X upmixer with the latter and I can't help but hoping that some day its Atmos mix will see the light of day. My son is drawing while listening, humming and singing the songs he knows, I also join him singing aloud from time to time, we're having some fun!
