Mark, this is one I've been procrastinating on; don't know why?
Do you know of any sound differences between the various SACD releases?

JP, this was the version highly recommended to me and it's still available from CDJapan for roughly $24.

BTW, it's 5.1 NOT 3.0 as indicated in CDJapan's description: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/SICP-10088?s_ssid=e3faa5c3d6c76cba8

Excellent disc and very discrete!

No, sorry J-Pup, I only have the stereo MOFI . One thing that is cool in surround is first there is that haunting roll on the hi hat that really comes forward, and the mood is so much better in surround and the basic trend is Herbie and Chick are playing back and forth on keyboards in the rears and Miles is up front on the horn, very cool.

wow fizzy! i didn't know there were 2 Quad mixes of Get Your Wings! are they radically different from one another? what format was the alternate version on, SQ or Q8?

I do not have it but assuming that's the case .
I see it listed on Quadtrades Columbia Quad thread , they received the listings for DTS CD and two are listed for Get Your Wings .

(unless it's a big typo)

Thanks for the input Mark; I saw another post by you talking about liking the MOFI. I've been buying more MOFI this last year, both CD and SACD (not currently buying vinyl but that could change) something about mixing, mastering, gain and that secret sauce;)
At this rate I'll be...

Yep , sorry that is correct .

WOW, lots of unnecessary vitriol on that thread , sheesh.

indeed.. and not pointing fingers at anyone at all, it is my belief that had there been some transparency wrt source used, or at the very least even passing reference made somewhere in the package to the effect that the Quad mastertapes were unavailable and so decoded/demodulated needledrops were used instead, things might not have got so out of hand.

anyway, what's done is done, we move on and i feel more confident that any future Universal Quads will be handled differently, particularly if DV have anything to do with it.

case in point, that CTI Live Quad, they didn't have to disclose upfront that it was from a decoded matrix source but it was a good thing that they did imho because people could then make an informed choice whether or not to buy a release if such things are a deal breaker to them. phew! :)
