CARLY SIMON - NO SECRETS
*
Elektra/Rhino Records – BA2 75049, Blu-ray Audio, Quadraphonic, 5.1, Dolby Atmos
- Quad mix by Bill Schnee, Atmos & 5.1 mix by Frank Filipetti
* Very different mixes on all of the Multichannel choices; I'm not sure which ones I prefer most, but also the sound is different on all these (age.)
Using the song "Waited So Long" as a comparison - The Atmos (7.1 floor) sounds kind of like a center front heavy -3 legged stool mix to me.
The Quad has Lowell's slide guitar bouncing all around the speakers (sort of a little too gimmicky for me), and sounds a little soft mastered.
The 5.1 is more under control, more punchy, and balanced sounding as to the mix. I also have the 2001 DVD-A, but haven't heard it in years; which I believe Bill Schnee did the 5.1 mix on that one, and wondering how it compares to Filipetti's mix?
So far leaning towards 5.1, then Quad and finally Atmos; in that order (on my all floor 5.1 system.)
The song "Waited So Long" has some great musicians backing her up with:

James Taylor

Jim Keltner

Bill Payne (Little Feat)
Piano –

Slide Guitar –
Lowell George (Little Feat)
