I was putting out the papers/mags for recycling when I spotted a few Record Collector's and realised I hadn't read them. Anyway the March edition had an article on BBC Transcription Discs and a link to a website BBC Transcription Recordings

So trawling through I found links to the following Discs (there may be more)

I'm not sure I'm familiar with "BBC presents Matrix H". Any idea what is supposed to be on it for tracks? The H demo disc is more frequently mentioned, at least.

Well this is an incredible surprise.

The first day of BBC MATRIX H , broadcasting , (30 April 1977) , of Rock music , featuring The Amazing Jack Bruce Band.
Including the Matrix H announcement and the mini speaker test . 4X Hello in a circular fashion clockwise from left front , right front , right rear , and finally left rear.

All available on Disc Four of Jack Bruce's-Smiles &Grins , Broadcast Sessions, 1970 - 2001 BBC Broadcasts. On... Esoteric Recordings ECLEC 62852

IF you have an H decoder , well great ...but if not and I'm sure that is the majority of us here on QQ...try QS , ideally QS with an adapter that shifts the right degree. I'm told that the Surround Master will read H .
I have one and didn't hook it up , but found a slightly good alternative.

@marpow

I tried disc 4 , with my Yamaha , engaged in DSP MODE "ROCK CONCERT" to come relatively close. At least to my ears .
The fourth Hello does end up at rear left. Not the best but you can give it a try.

If you have an accurate decode of H , thru a QS adapter or H , then even the rather quick HELLO 4X should be heard in clockwise fashion.
I used to have a Sansui QSD 2 with adapter and heard both demos of HELLO 4X,even though the first is said rapidly.

Anyway 11 tracks in BBC MATRIX H, well worth having just for the test alone.

PS my order from Amazon took one day ?!!!

Wow that's great! I would love to pick up on this. But when I search the disc number all I get is this:

https://www.cherryred.co.uk/jack-br...70-2001-4cd-2blu-ray-video-remastered-box-set

It looks like yours is an LP??? And in the link above I see nothing about Matrix H. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I clearly heard the clockwise decode listening on Apple Music, using Neo 6 Music processing on the old Yamaha AVR.

Parallel discussion popped up yesterday on the Songs For a Tailor thread:

No LP, you would need to buy the box set.

Its CD No.4 of the box set, no references to Matrix H, but there is a reference here http://www.eclipse67.com/bbch.htm

and Derek has decoded it and gets the correct effects, so I might have to get this set now :)

It's a CD /Bluray set , all stereo except disc 4 which is the MATRIX H Concert, plus the very important H Quadraphonic announcement and test.(4 cds 2 BDS)

That is the picture of the box set I got from Amazon....so I would look for Jack Bruce Smiles & Grins . On Esoteric.

Here is a pic of the back of the box.

And a very big shout out to @marpow , so thankyou for this incredible...major MATRIX H confirmation ! They normally would've edited out the beginning but did no such thing in this instance . Such a lucky find.

Yep, I decoded it but not with true accuracy, just enhanced Dolby pro with DSP engaged "Rock Concert" via my Yamaha .
No doubt a Surround Master or Sansui vario matrix with an adapter would be much better.
(Or Integrex with H or HJ .)

I just can't find any negatives with the release of this incredible CD !!!

And , Well...,I really don't think it's going to sound better than this CD Encode.
Really, really would like to see someone to provide copies of the 1977 H and 78 HJ Sessions..... that the BEEB had fun with, broadcasting , with Tony Wilson's team of engineers.
I read somewhere that there is or are Sessions with Uriah Heep , and even Elvis Costello.
I wonder who else re rock wise there are ??

I would love to get my hands on to the Elvis Costello , as it was the peak of his career in 77/78. ....Pump It Up, yes!
And equally would like The Stranglers Sessions from the No More Heroes album.

There are some Sessions that made their way to UTUBE , as I notice Alex Harvey from 78 and from 77 , Phil Manzanera 801 Band . Both of these are must have's in my opinion.

On the Live side...there is a DVD of Gentle Giant Jan 78 , this CD of Jack Bruce Band , and CD of Genesis At Knebworth 78 , of which some bits are available on a box set. A pity they did not issue the WHOLE concert.
And the T.S. vinyl from a 77 broadcast of Shakti w/John Mc Laughlin , I can't say this one is quad H positively , as I have not heard that vinyl copy. Although
given that H is Stereo and mono compatible, it's likely the H is retained.

Anyway anyone with additional Q Session or Live quadraphonic artists .. , please chime in . Thankyou,

-Derek , aka Fizzywiggs41..or 😵 Fizzy

Anyone with a Surround Master run that CD #4 thru yet; and how does the music sound decoded?

It's kinda your there with The group . I have to say it's not Jack's best music being played but he said he wanted to get away from his Cream and early music days , so don't be too surprised by his musical selections.

@Owen Smith

I think I may have found the date for the QUEEN broadcast , but it's somewhat confusing?

I was searching thru utube for Matrix H broadcasts yesterday and up popped
Queen , with an excerpt from The Radio Times .

It's the first song only namely 'We Will Rock You' from News Of The World promo at Maida Vale , by Alan Freeman.

But here's the kicker...
It's November 26th 1977 1430...which is the identical time and date as The
Phil Manzanera 801 Band ??

I suppose it could have followed The Manzanera transmission , as I had one other doubled up H transmission from Freeman's Saturday Show.

Anyways I thought I'd let you know so you might make your own opinions.
