I'd forgotten I'd got those Lonestar releases, if I remember correctly those tracks work well through the SM2 in Involve 4.0

I'm talking about your spelling re Lone Star , because there is another group out of the US , (Texas I think) , and they are known as "Lonestar". A Country and Western band if my memory serves me well.

There is a bit in the liner notes about "Fluff" trying his best to shine a light on these Rock legends- Lone Star. Sadly only two albums released and sales were not the best.

I'm on my phone so not good for Typing! That is the band Lone Star, who I saw a few times, and when at Uni I saw Paul Chapman (guitar) jamming with others in a club!

Arriving through the post this morning two remastered CDs from Lonestar, 1st album & Firing On All Six, both with bonus BBC sessions. It looks and sounds like the 3 tracks on Firing On All Six are in surround from the sessions on 25th June 1977. I can't play them via an H/HJ decoder so I went for DD ProII Music, and things were happening in the rear speakers, including some movement front to back. So the million dollar question, are they the Quad tracks broadcast? See mrfloydin's great web page http://www.eclipse67.com/bbch.htm

The CD cover below gives the date but not whether its Quad.

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band was one of those brilliant acts to see live, which I'm lucky enough to have seen quite a few times.

But I'm not sure it is in HJ as Alex Harvey had a band called Quad - though I'd love them to be!

From Super Deluxe Edition "Disc thirteen features Rock Drill (1977), SAHB’s last album, and is expanded to include two extra tracks by the band, including rarity No Complaints Department, which was omitted from the original album at the last minute. To segue into Harvey’s post-SAHB career, three songs with his next band Quad, performed for Alan ‘Fluff’ Freeman’s Radio 1 Show in March 1978."

And once again , righto !

If you look further back in the posts , there was discussion by three of us re is it Quad?

Back then it was concluded no , because Harvey had a band named Quad,

But there is no denying these are the quad sessions in hj and not the band named Quad.

I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts whoever put this cd set together saw the word Quad on the tape from the BEEB , and assumed it was the band's name.

Ergo another Quad BBC HJ , has been located.
You know I wish I had a copy back then , I may just have over looked this for what it truly is.....and now the price has skyrocketed !

If you log onto "Alan Freeman Saturday Rock Show's" a handful of his 1977 and 1978 Shows can easily be found on their menu.

FANDOM comes up and has his shows are listed as compilation years.
I clicked on his 70's shows and (fans of course) put a number of his shows on links.

I spent the last three weeks or better , going through his shows (links provided) that might have quad segments and there are maybe 4 or 5 that do.

His Christmas Eve 1977 Show is there , 60 mins of THE BEST OF MATRIX H
December 24th 1977.

And more importantly his 90 min quad show of "Genesis At Knebworth" is there , and although the intro is brief the outro is all there with relevant quad credits....Matrix H as Alan stated (it was assumed previously to be HJ Quad)
ie Tony Wilson Quad Creations , date July 01 1978.

In addition there is the Lone Star show on 26 June 77 , 3 tracks in matrix H ,
at -57: mins in . (Missing is 2nd quad segment Andy Fairweather-Low)

and Phil Manzanera 801, 26 November 1977 , starting at -57min. 4 tracks in matrix H.

And a repeat of Manzanera/801 , On December 17 1977 at - 28:55 , 4 tracks in matrix H.

that's all of the QUAD MATRIX H, HJ... I found on the links provided . I did notice from licensing to his show that Tony Wilson was his producer , and Freeman states his shows are recorded as Tony Wilson Creations.

Some of the provided shows are short , but at least 4 or five are complete at 3 hours. 2:30 to 5:30 pm Saturdays.
His shows feature a top 20 of Rock tunes for the un-initiated.

There are large gaps of missing shows , such as most between January 1978 and June 1978. And sporadically in 1977 , various weeks are missing.
Hopefully this fan created source will eventually provide links to the missing others.

I used to listen to the Alan Freeman show and try to decode it with a Sony non-logic SQ decoder. If only the BBC had made some decoders available but they clearly wanted to perfect it first which just left us all to rake over the embers and dig out some great finds. Oh well.. at least we have a huge amount of surround music to console us now!

For me , I was and still am, a fan of the BEEB'S mixing in quad . Via Tony Wilson and crew.

And the Hi Fidelity of those transmissions are superior to some of the
other FM quad matrix Broadcasts I've heard .

I'm thankful that some still exist, with that fansite .
