Just saw this thread and have a question. Do you need a matrix decoder to play these CD's in quadro or would an AVR do the same??
Since I don't have dedicated decoder equipment then it wouldn't make sense for me getting some of those CD's.
Thanks in advance,
Horst
It doesn't hurt to try. QS encodes will work better than SQ via an AVR. I have never been impressed by any Dolby surround decoder but results may vary.

Just a little follow up to the Stanyan quad/s , on CD.

This Spellbound disc may be the only CD that retains SQ Quad matrix .

I noticed on a couple others , notably For Whom The Bell Tolls, Victor Young ...that Steve Hoffman chose to remix and remaster the CD , which kills the matrix encode of course.
Why retain this one but not others ??? Who knows what he was thinking.
SQ MATRIX is stereo compatible, so why remix , same goes for any QS , etc any other matrix.

There is one CD , Violins Of Versailles previously on Stanyan , which is on the lazerdisc label and may retain the matrix quad. But who knows ?

WOW!!!!

I mean to actually have issued a BBC QUAD MATRIX H program on CD in this day and age.

Not only a Matrix H Concert of Jack Bruce music , ...but includes the introduction from April 30th 1977 , (the first day of the BBC Quad tests of their new matrix H) and including the revered BBC MATRIX H QUAD Mini H TEST in the form of 4 Hello's .
This is a quadraphile collectors dream come true.

I'm told this will decode with an Involve Surround Master, in Involve mode.

So here it is , Jack Bruce , disc #4 from the CD set Smiles and Grins, Live BBC .
Esoteric ECLEC 62852 ,4 CD'S and stereo bluray(2).

Could the blu-ray also be encoded with Matrix H?

Following up...

Unfortunately There is no H matrix tracks on the Bluray disc's ,
But that hopefully will not dissuade anyone from picking up this box set ..

If only for CD#4 ! What a find 🗿🏅🍀

The first rock recording broadcast of BBC MATRIX H , which miraculous enough has the introduction re: BBC Quad Commencement and the mini Matrix H test.

A definite quadraphonic treasure must have which is almost 50 years olde.

Is anyone familiar with this cd release?.....

Rich Mountain Tower

I'm wondering if it still contains the EV-4 Matrix encoding?

Yes it contains the EV-4 encoding. That was the only way it was released. I have both the LP and the CD. There is a discussion of it in the poll thread.

Rich Mountain Tower: Rich Mountain Tower [EV/Q8/QR]

OD (The Matrix) "released" a decode of it .

Sadly Discogs blocked the sale of this being flagged as an unofficial release! I purchased mine on eBay it was also listed for sale on Amazon (I originally ordered from Amazon but the seller ran out of stock). Incidentally the notes state that ownership is uncertain but money has been put into an escrow account to pay royalties to the rights holder when/if ever determined. That is good enough for me!!

So, Ken, I noticed the label as being "Aurora". Does that mean OD was the person that issued this cd ?

Good to know it still contains the EV-4 Matrix.

I wish there were more just like this.

Through the Surround Master, this disc sounds damn near discrete. It's worth seeking out.
