No, he just decoded it. As you remember he prefers to decode CD (or digital download) rather than vinyl.

Oh yes that's correct , he does prefer a matrix encoded CD over a matrix encoded vinyl LP when he does his conversions.
I do as well , as long as they are being manufactured. It's the ease of operation that ages me prefer matrix encoded CD'S , and that's why I go to the trouble of ferreting them out.

I would welcome someone who would transfer encoded albums to cdr , as there are a lot of people who don't have many or any encoded vinyl LP's. That would truly be a "Quadraphonic Preservation Service".
And It just follows suit that we owners of Decoders such as the Surround Master or Tate's can enjoy them on that shiny disc format. (And that includes the 70's Sansui QS variomatrix and SQ Wave -Form- Matching decode that Sony and Lafayette sold)
I do miss my Sony SQA 2030 and my Sansui QSD-2 , they did a credible job.

Us Matrix lovers must give a shout out ... and promote the lads involved with the sale of SM ..or any other Matrix decoder. And any new decoders such as the highly anticipated Surround Vector from Malcolm.

Unfortunately, it's unlikely, or at least uncertain, that these CDs were made from the quad masters.

On eBay, I picked up a copy of "The Nun's Story", assuming that it was quad. The same artwork appeared on the cover, but the album number was POW-4022 instead of SRQ-4022. The master number inscribed in the vinyl was "POW-4022" rather than the "SRQ-4022" inscribed into quad copies.

All references to "quad" on the back of the jacket had been removed. The large font statement "FOR THE FIRST TIME IN COMPATIBLE SQ QUADRAPHONIC STEREO SOUND" had become "FOR THE FIRST TIME IN COMPATIBLE STEREO SOUND", with white space where "SQ QUADRAPHONIC" had appeared. Even the tiny "SQ Quadraphonic Mixing" credit had been deleted, and the credits below it moved up.

In addition, the back of the jacket advertised apparently stereo copies of "Spellbound" (POW-4025) and "For Whom the Bell Tolls" (POW-4026).

The date on the stereo release of "A Nun's Story" was 1982, and by then quad had long been considered a miserable failure. It appears that Stanyan, like other record companies, was treating it like a curse.

Another Stanyan album that has apparently been re-released in quad is "Beautiful Music to Love By" by (I think) the Stanyan Strings. This disc was put out by Laserlight, but has the Stanyan SQ Quad on the back cover. Played through the Surround Master, it sounds very good.

Yea, I saw that one as well , but I couldn't make my mind up whether or not to commit for purchase.

Just picked this up on Amazon...

Four !!! Quad albums on 2 CD'S from Bonnie Koloc. Her first four albums were only ever available as Matrix Quad encoded , fwiw.

After All This Time is EV-4 , the remainder are all QS.

All told she had Five Quad Matrix albums with the fifth being a QS Best Of.

I've recently added the Q8s for all four to my collection. Discrete, baby!
