Metal Machine Music 50th Anniversary!

Sony Music should put the quadraphonic version of Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music on streaming serices for it's 50th anniversary. Maybe even remix it to Atmos!

Oddly, on Tidal the quad mix is available in the 360 Reality format… or at least it was before they removed support for it. It may still be in that format on Amazon Music HD who also supported it.

For me, I tracked down the quad blu ray on eBay a while back and it’s… honestly better than you’d think. The seperation of the static helps make it less overall jarring (I believe but I may be wrong that the original stereo mix is effectively two “channels” of noise in each of the two channels, while the quad pulls one of those “channels” out to the rears each).

I’ve always thought that if you play it at a medium to low volume its a surprisingly meditative album… I wouldn’t be opposed to an Atmos version!

BTW, the Atmos question was meant to be "tongue in cheek" although since Bob Ludwig is credited with mastering & engineering the recording so he should know how many tracks were used in the initial recording.
