That doesn't make sense that it plays some Atmos m4a files and not others. You should get to the bottom of that before committing to the mkv's. Are you in the audio section when you play the working m4a files? Maybe you accidentally moved over to the video sections when they stopped working?
The files that play, play regardless. I ripped the all the same way. If a file doesn’t play it doesn’t play at all using any method.
- Create a MKV file
- Use MMH to extract the Atmos track only and tag it

That is the method I use, and they all work in Kodi on my mini pc.

Some players will play Dolby Atmos Dolby Digital Plus JOC in m4a but not Dolby Atmos TrueHD in m4a.

Some BD players won’t play Atmos TrueHD in MKV files.

Best to ask/research before buying a media player or embarking on ripping.
My bad for not researching it more. Worst case scenario is the MKV file route since those will play without issue. I didn’t catch the Atmos music bug until after I got the player.

If you drag multiple m4a files* onto the MMH ‘Extract Audio from MKV’ tool’s grid wth ‘MKV’ selected as the output NMH should create MKVs for each file..

* the m4a files created with MMH previously with Atmos streams.

It’s the Zidoo player. I came across a discussion on the web. Zidoo isn’t good with Atmos or Dolby Vision. Expensive yes, capable no.
My guess is lossy Atmos m4a files will work, but the lossless ones are hit or miss. I bought a $20 Verizon box I will be testing early next week. It is Android 12. I don't really need it, but it is normally $70, and I thought I would give it a try. It has a USB port that I believe will handle NTFS drives, but we will see.

Great news. So ‘the trick’ means you can now play m4a with TrueHD Atmos on the Zidoo?
Yes!!! I’m very excited. The issue was addressed in a software upgrade that I didn’t do yet nor was aware of. A month ago I had lost the hard drive I was using to rip, tag, and organize all my Atmos files. So I was dreading having to start from scratch again. MMH is definitely a great tool that has been extremely helpful with a majority of my file management needs!

Zidoo is the company. Don’t throw my perfectly fine working Z9X ( not Pro) in that mix. It plays MKVs, MKAs and Atmos just fine. It won’t recognize embedded flac Auro 3D but that’s another story

As far as DV, most players have issues with FEL full processing but handles lesser profiles fine. To play FEL go the route of CoreElec on Ugoos AM6b+ and others. Your display has a big role here too

I firmware update fixed my issue which in the change log addressed instance of Dolby Atmos files not being able to be played back

Can you please provide a screen shot. It’s works on my Win 11 PC when I looked yesterday. Maybe it skin related.

I have no way of selecting the second radio button. The first one remains selected no matter what I do.

The second radio button is selected.
Wait, what?!?

Guess I'm the only one finding that counterintuitive as far as color schemes go. No problem.

And also, hats off for the "Create Chapterless mka file (Kodi)" option... you deserve a statue somewhere. In absence of that, do you accept PayPal donations or something?
