I typed this out and then thought "what a boring post that was", but I left it there anyway for posteriorority!!
I'm needing a fair, but reliable assessment of the surround mix on this one Clement
Ok! I have a conversion of the Quad on a flash. I'll find it and do a comparison for you. Right now i'm soaking in the Wilson 5.1 Ultravox Quartet mix, so give me some time!I'm needing a fair, but reliable assessment of the surround mix on this one Clement
(P.S.- if you have the CD-4/quadradisc of this album, but "not" running it through a Demodulator for comparison purposes, that doesn't count )
Thanks, that's good. Are there any instruments/BUV etc. mostly isolated in the rears on the new 5.1?Although the new mix is basically true to the Quad mix, the rears are louder in the Quad (mine is a QR conversion). Also, Elvis's vocals are isolated and duplicated in the original; in the new mix, i can hear the vocals only as reverb in the rears–his voice is up front, giving me more of a feel as if I were at the show. I don't have the ability to boost my rears (i really need to move into the new millennium already!); if i did, i think the mixes would sound comparable. As it stands, i'm glad to have both. It's hard not to let the visuals influence my feelings for the new mix; they are a winning combo and the best i have experienced (i have the Deluxe Edition DVD as well). The original Quad mix is powerful, though, and it really takes me back. If i'm just going to experience the music, i'll stick with the great QR conversion i have. Let me know if this is what you're looking for, or if you want me to break things down more.
