David Gilmour - Rattle That Lock.

Nice to buy an NEW disc on Bluray audio.
I am still in hope for an future with increasing releases like this.
Nice to have an 5.1mix made at the time the recording was made and not some years later.

Since i got the advice to get rid of my center speaker i am now enjoying so many more of my surround discs.

Eivind Buene - Possible Cities / Essential Landscapes

Performed by Cikada

Modern, abstract classical music similar to Stockhausen with an emphasis on spatial arrangements of instruments.

The 5.1 recording offers excellent discrete surround sound.

I notice your purchase has the blu ray AND SACD both...have you done a comparison here or in the past as to sonic quality of one vs the other? I believe I have one purchase that contained both, Flute Mystery I think, but couldn't really tell the difference myself.

I've only done a brief comparison of the BD-A and SACD. Like you, I can't hear any big difference between the two. Both sound great and have an fantastic 360 degree, wrap-around 5.1 mix. I do remember reading a review of another 2L BD-A/SACD release (I think it was Grieg) which said the BD-A had a more open soundstage and better fidelity.

I have had a positive experience with all of 2L's releases. I am amazed that a small Norwegian company can produce & release such excellent immersive Hirez recordings on BOTH Bluray Audio and SACD. 2L is doing an outstanding job!

Albert Lee - Tearing it Up. Really nice, especially if you select the 'on stage' 5.1 mix which spreads the instruments around a little. Albert and band are in fine form here and perform a wide variety of material - of course you're here for the classics and you will not disappointed. His voice is really still the same too, a youthful sound I've always liked. There are some blistering solos here but as you'd expect, the band are all up to the ridiculously high standards set by Albert Lee. It's bright sounding in a positive way but the notes reveal that there is no EQ or artificial processing or reverb applied. My only real criticism is that the bass guitar is always mixed a little low for my tastes, but that's a minor gripe. I can think of few showcases for hi-res that bring this kind of intimate performance to your listening room. Go tear it up!

Its interesting to note that they have done two 5.1 mixes from 2 perspectives! I've seen Albert Lee & Hogan's Heroes a couple of times once in the mid-70s, and once at Fairport's Cropredy Festival in 2003, good gigs.

Peter Gregson "Touch"

Modern classical - Meditative, modern cello with flourishes of electronica. Peter Gregson is on the forefront of applying midi sampling and looping techniques to traditional classical instruments. He's a pretty interesting guy and there are several YouTube videos of him discussing these techniques. This is my second BDA from the Sono Luminus label - the first being the excellent "Americana" by the Modern Mandolin Quartet - think LAGQ except with Mandolins - very discreet. The Gregson disc also has an Auro 3D 9.1 option - for those interested. Highly recommended!

The MMQ 'Americana' disc is glorious; I wish it got more exposure because it's a stellar disc in every sense. I'll get this one based on your description. I've not had a dud from Sono Luminous yet.

The Sono Luminus label is "bubbling under" - while most of their titles are based in classical repetoire, there more than a few that stetch that boundary. From what I can tell from my small sampling, the recordings are pristine and the mixes are discreet. Sort of an American version of the fine Scandanavian label, 2L.
