All the Jeff Beck quad albums could use a rerelease in 4.0, as is now standard practice for Sony Japan.

I know. All the Jeff Beck quads were released in this 7" series, and—to my knowledge—all used 5.1 manipulations of the original 4.0 masters. They ought to have stayed in 4.0, which is how Sony seems to be doing it since Santana's Lotus.

The Jeff Becks have audio in the center and LFE channels. Technically, all 4.0 SACDs must use a 5- or 6-channel format to comply with the Scarletbook standard, which does not support 4-channel audio. The more recent Sony quad SACDs have silent center (or center and LFE) channels.

I would love it if Sony Japan could give us the following:

Billy Joel:

• Turnstiles (4.0 vintage mix)
• Piano Man (4.0 vintage mix)

Earth, Wind & Fire:

• Spirit (4.0 vintage mix)
• That's the Way of the World (4.0 vintage mix)

And if they wanted to follow these up some more Santana I certainly wouldn't complain.

As much as I love this album and I'm sure that the Japanese presentation will be quite impressive visually, I have the AF disc so I'll have to pass.

I got this Japan SACD surround mix excellent but what's great includes concert recording from Nassau Coliseum, NY, mixed from 16 track not sound board and Japanese packing always awesome so many cool items. On Amazon $ 60.

Glad to see the key Santana quad mix reissues come to their conclusion with Barboletta. Hope that Sony can now move on to other artists with the series.
There are some prime titles which they can reissue. I even think that "Bridge Over Troubled Water" would be easier to get cleared today than it was a few years back when they first attempted as the rights to the masters have now changed hands if the news was correct on that.

I am not aware of any Japan reissued quad mix where a channel placement oddity was corrected, a polarity issue was corrected, or an alternate mix was selected. I expect to see little if any surprise here.

As with Headhunters and Blow By Blow (Analogue Productions), Jeff Beck Group and Birds of Fire (Audio Fidelity), and Carlos Santana & Buddy Miles! Live! (Dutton Vocalion), I'll be skipping the 7".

Yes of course. I'll hold out for some exclusive quads that we know are sitting there untouched and un-reissued. We've been vocal enough about what we want from Sony, so they know. I guess they are not going to do any RCA label titles?

But I am happy for those that don't mind yet more repeated quadraphonic album releases already on SACD, and are just glad that Japan is continuing on with the series.

It appears this is getting reissued in a new multichannel SACD physical release in Japan. The shipping to the U.S. is totally bonkers, IMO. If there is an alternative source with cheaper shipping, I'm in for this one!

I suggest bundling the Laura Nyro with the latest (or any) of the Santana 7" Japan SACD releases to cost average shipping. CD Japan also may still have other 7" quad SACDs, or other titles that may only be available as an import. That is what I do anytime I order from them.
