All the Jeff Beck quad albums could use a rerelease in 4.0, as is now standard practice for Sony Japan.

I know. All the Jeff Beck quads were released in this 7" series, and—to my knowledge—all used 5.1 manipulations of the original 4.0 masters. They ought to have stayed in 4.0, which is how Sony seems to be doing it since Santana's Lotus.

The Jeff Becks have audio in the center and LFE channels. Technically, all 4.0 SACDs must use a 5- or 6-channel format to comply with the Scarletbook standard, which does not support 4-channel audio. The more recent Sony quad SACDs have silent center (or center and LFE) channels.

I would love it if Sony Japan could give us the following:

Billy Joel:

• Turnstiles (4.0 vintage mix)
• Piano Man (4.0 vintage mix)

Earth, Wind & Fire:

• Spirit (4.0 vintage mix)
• That's the Way of the World (4.0 vintage mix)

And if they wanted to follow these up some more Santana I certainly wouldn't complain.

As much as I love this album and I'm sure that the Japanese presentation will be quite impressive visually, I have the AF disc so I'll have to pass.

** OK, I CHANGED MY MIND. I WENT TO THE CD JAPAN SITE AND CHECKED MY REWARD POINTS AND I HAD ENOUGH TO BEING DOWN THE PRICE OF THE DISC WITH SHIPPING TO UNDER $25 BEFORE I LOSE THE POINTS. DO I NEED IT? NO! BUT THAT'S NEVER STOPPED ME BEFORE.

I got this Japan SACD surround mix excellent but what's great includes concert recording from Nassau Coliseum, NY, mixed from 16 track not sound board and Japanese packing always awesome so many cool items. On Amazon $ 60.
