No they didn’t. 10 years later, those are all still available on iTunes.

That’s why I thought he was maybe referring to something else I missed.
Are they available anywhere else? Or just lossy from iTunes? Not listed at Qobuz in the U.S.

A lot of bands did that. The Beatles released a load of stuff including B sides for one day on Apple Music to retain copyright and then withdrew them, which is a pretty cynical thing to do. Either release it and leave it available, or don't release it at all is my view.
The Beatles unreleased material was available on Apple for a lot longer than one day. I remember going back and forth deciding whether or not to buy it.
After all, it was crappy 128 mp3 files.
I finally ended up just choosing a handful of tracks to purchase.
But I do remember Bob Dylan making his compilation available for one day only.
Fortunately, I'm only a casual Dylan fan so it didn't bother me at all

Assuming its this release we’re talking about, it’s still available, on Apple Music, and in 24/44.1

It being Apple exclusive makes some amount of sense, with regards to Apple Records v Apple Computer. Lengthy lawsuit that mandated that Apple don’t get into the music industry, they did, it came back… and years later it was settled and magically The Beatles catalogue available digitally for the first time was exclusive to iTunes for about a year

They were there the first time I looked for them what must have been a few days or a couple of weeks after I first heard they had been released. They there when I finally got around to purchasing them a few years later. And they are still there now. The better question would be to ask how long were they taken down, if ever?

As far as sound quality goes, iTunes generally downloads at 256k AAC, which some argue is better than 320k MP3s. And lossy or not, they certainly sound much better than whatever bootlegs were being shared around before.

The only real question I have is that if these were released primarily to extend the copyright (which I have no reason to doubt) then why didn't they do it every year after? 🤷‍♂️

It appeared to be the victim of a bad DSD-to-PCM conversion, with banded noise as a result. See this post.
Yes, it seems so. I posted the same screenshots on SHF but nobody really commented or cared. Fair enough considering that the 5.1 was not the novelty of this release, and we can easily go back to the 2011 blu-ray or the SACD.

Guthrie uses the Sonoma system to mix in DSD.
That sort of weirdness is Guthrie all over. And you can't mix *in* DSD, it's a one bit format. The mix would have to be in DXD or via analogue or something else.

However this 2003 mix was already on the 2011 Immersion set blu ray, so why would it need to be transferred to PCM again? They should already have it in PCM.

After listening to this twice yesterday (only in true dolby mode) it sounds phenomenal compared to the previous 5.1 mix, having had a look at the poll thread for this I question why people are listening on streaming services and giving it bad marks? It is a Blu ray disc poll, not a lossy streaming service poll, these marks reduce the overall score and may give a false impression to some who don’t read every post like I do. The mods should be removing these scores or requesting the members listen to the blu ray and change their vote. My atmos speakers will arrive by the end of the week and this will be my first listen without a doubt.
Sorry for the rant but too many polls being ruined by streaming services
I have a 5.1.4 and it was epic! I haven't listened to the 5.1 version yet. Little curious to pipe the high quality stereo into a 1975 Lafayette SQ receiver to see what it does. What surround system are you getting? I went with the Monoprice Premium 5.1.4 set and upgraded the sub in my townhome, they sound fantastic. I often consider bigger but these days are not always better.

I bought an old 2nd hand set of 5.1 Mordaunt short Genie’s, got them cheap from a guy who paid £800 for them in 2008, sound brilliant and small enough to keep my other half happy, I asked her how she would feel if I got another two speakers the same for Atmos? I had to hold one up to the top of the wall for her to see where it would go, she agreed so I bought a pair from ebay for £32, this is what they look like at the front

Those look really good! Have me thinking to dress them up with lighting like a fake candlestick holder and fire some LEDs out the back up onto the wall would look excellent and double for mood lighting. My set has upward firing speakers which makes it easier to deal with installation and sounds good, but from reading on it I have plans for when we buy a house to have a separate set for all channels. It is widely discussed the sound is much better with dedicated speakers where you can. I won't know for some time but I will sooner or later!

I had up-firing speakers for 3 years, in my opinion they were as much use as a chocolate coffee pot but hopefully yours will be much better, I have to do everything on the cheap as i’m a poor pensioner, I can’t wait to finally hear some sounds from above, I have more than 20 Atmos albums and about the same in Atmos movies, i’ll be going Atmos crazy when they finally arrive 👍

It is very unlikely that the stereo on the blu ray is SQ encoded, this album was not single inventory. Anything interesting you hear will be entirely unintended.
