Yamaha Aventage A2A would not read Atmos on front panel, read Dolby TrueHD, turned amp off, back on it reads Atmos/DTHD (usually says just Atmos). Sony player reads Dolby TrueHD 7.1. What am I listening to. YIKES!

Can anyone with a 7.1.4 or 5.1.4 setup please try the Speaker ID or white noise option in the Blu-ray? I'm getting something really weird: when selecting height front or back test, I'm getting the sound coming at the same time from height front and back speakers. When I run, for example, the Atmos test tones available in Apple Music, I get the right be
Yes, I'm getting that as well, using the amps (Denon AVR-X4400H) own setup everything is where it should be. This is worrying because if the same problem exists in the music itself then we're not getting a full 7.1.4 experience.

I have a Marantz SR7011, I believe its core is very similar to Denon's, but let's see what we find out.
And it's not the player, I tried with the Oppo and the Sony with same results.
Apologies for derailing the thread, but it's only this freaking this that displays this incorrect behaviour. Apart from the Apple Dolby labs tones I tried with another Dolby Atmos demo disk that I have and the info in the height speakers is routed correctly

I ran the test and each speaker is identified perfectly.

I had that hope,.but no... In my case, I can hear the same in the pair top front and back left and top front and back right. I tried with Us and Them and all the initial dialogue is duplicated in the top left speakers (...yelling and screaming... I don't know,.I was really drunk at the time ..). My checking method was ear to speaker and then repeating the spoken parts several times.
Can you repeat the same experiment focusing on the "I was really drunk at the time"?
Thanks!
Is your Blu-ray player set to Bitstream output? IIRC, Atmos requires this setting.

yes, both are on bitstream. Every other test disc or stream work fine, apart from Dark Side.
Which AVR do you have?
May I ask you for a piece of favor? Can you follow @svengaleekie notes and let me know where each voice at the beginning of Us and Them is coming from? I'm trying to assess if this particular issue is having any impact on the listening experience.
Thanks much!

I'll try it when I get home. I recently purchased an Onkyo TX-NR797 9.2-Channel Home Theater AV Receiver. Here's the rest of my set up.

Definitive Technology BP-8040ST Towers
Definitive Technology CS-8040HD (Center)
Klipsch Synergy B-200 (Rear Surrounds)
Pure Resonance Audio MC2.5B Mini Cubes (Side Surrounds)
Klipsch CDT-5650-C II (In-Ceiling)
SVS SB-1000 Pro 12" Subwoofer

Oppo Blu-ray (BDP-103)

Thanks, really interested to see if the Onkyo is making any difference compared to the Marantz/Denon.
I'll try to rip and decode the Blu-ray and listen to the individual height channels as well

The speaker ID and pink noise work as they should on my system. If you press "info" on your Marantz, the input signal should say Dolby Atmos and you should have 12 active speakers. The SOUND should say Direct, not Auto. I think you can change that on the front of the Marantz or on the remote. I think the yellow button?

I also have a rip of the Atmos tracks.

All is displayed the same in my AVR... puzzling!

I have the Denon AVR-x3700H, and as I indicated previously, the channel ID sounds and pink noise all mapped perfectly on 7.1.4 setup. Here is where the voices at the end of Money and beginning of Us and Them are coming from:

(Starting at time 25:15 - using the speaker naming conventions from the DSOTM Atmos setup menu)
"(laughter) I was in the right" = Left Front + Right Front
"yes absolutely in the right" = Left Rear Surround
"I certainly was in the right" (#1) = Right Top Front
"that geezer was cruising for a bruising" = Right Rear Surround
"why does anyone do anything" (#1) = Right Side
"why does anyone do anything" (#2) = Left Side
"I was really drunk at the time" = Left Top Rear
"...yelling and screaming..." = Left Top Rear
"I certainly was in the right" (#2) = Left Front
"I was really drunk at the time" = Left Top Front
Thanks, now I need to replicate that! Too late here to make the test and tomorrow I'm busy as hell. I'll report back!

I'm getting the exact same thing with those height speakers (7.1.4) using a Marantz SR7013...When the test signal on the blu-ray disc says Left Front Height, both that speaker and the Left Rear Height play. So my SPL meter says the LFH is 4 dB too loud because two speakers are actually playing.

[Edit: I forgot to mention that my height speakers are configured as FHL, FHR, RHL, and RHR.]

I ran it from the blu-ray on my 7.1.4 (actually 7.2.4) system and everything checks out perfectly, both on the channel ID test and the pink noise test.

What AVR are you using?
