1K Club - QQ Shooting Star
Not that I am looking a gift horse in the mouth but I was hoping the next PF release was going to be a deluxe Meddle or Obscured By Clouds with a 5.1 & Atmos.
I was in Italy in November so took a couple days and checked out the Pompeii ruins. They have quite a bit of PF memorabilia when you enter the amphitheater and have Echoes from the movie looping on a screen at the end of a long tunnel filled with PF tour posters, etc. At some point in the past they have done screenings of the movie in the amphitheater. The new release sounds like a good time for another screening at the amphitheater.I believe this deserves a dedicated thread. Info comes from SHF:
While not IMAX, yesterday Cinemark posted a listing for "Pink Floyd at Pompeii - MCMLXXII" with an April 24th 2025 release date. The description is as follows:
"The newly restored 4K version, scanned from the original negative, presents the first full 90-minute cut, combining the 60-minute source edit of the performance, with additional Abbey Road Studios documentary segments covering the recording of 1973's The Dark Side of the Moon. The amphitheater concert includes performances of seminal tracks Echoes and One of These Days, alongside earlier hits Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun and A Saucerful of Secrets. Also features a brand-new audio remix by Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree, preserving the authenticity and spirit of the original recording."
Quite an interesting Atmos mix. It sounds like Dave's voice is slightly off to the right and Rick's to the left, but both are also heard in the center channel. The guitar and organ are almost completely isolated in the side speakers. The drums (sounds like a single mono track?) are spread across all three front speakers.
