Folks let's not kill the messenger nor the message. Paul Sinclair and SDE has and is doing great things for our multichannel community. SDE exclusives are really great and they cover many different genres, in atmos no less. The price of the exclusive discs are reasonable, and most have increased in value as they are sold out. We can complain that $17 for a slip case (vs Amazon without) is high, but is it SDE or shipping from Great Britain? Anyway I applaud Paul and his team for what they do, and next to the listen, holding the media in your hands is what our hobby is all about.

Its mostly shipping (the non-exclusive discs are more expensive than the big guys), our UK postage rates are on the up, plus SDE outsources distribution (as they are a one man and his wife band) so that fulfilment company sets the P&P price, and so I pay £5/US$6.3 P&P within the UK from them - for maybe 150-200 miles.

It's funny because it's true.

EDIT TO ADD: Yeah, I was focused on the joke, but it really is true. I'm still a babe in the woods compared to the regulars here, so I wait until a thread pops up and people start posting. You never know when a new release might be sub-par compared to an older mix (as an example), and this is literally the most reliable place on the web to research all that.

So thank you all. You have, simultaneously somehow, both saved me money and cost me MONEY.

geeeezzz,-for Purple's sake! We've all got the option to order from SDE on this or not; it's not Rocket Science and no one is forcing the money outta your wallets!

I'm just curious how the mix and mastering sounds, James' Diamonds and Pearls mix wasn't too bad IIRC.

I pre-ordered from Rhino, and I think I'll keep it that way. I like SDE, but can't justify the extra cost here.

I so want this to be good. I consider Prince both a talented musician and a musical craftsman, and this album is a personal favorite; mixed well, this could be a multichannel masterpiece.

I would say that the term "hoodwinked" is kind of strong. Mis interpretation might be more accurate. My 2¢

Again for clarity: I am (we all are) grateful and respectful to SDE for their exclusives that we wouldn’t get anywhere else. BUT I stand by the word ‘hoodwinked’ at least for the initial times early on that it was done for non exclusives. Anyhow…. I can’t wait for the physical release of Purple Rain
