It might be not the mainstream model, but I know users in Germany and me in Switzerland.
It can be (more or less) easily refurbished and combined with some modern equipment. I use it with by far more modern power amps, sat receiver, DAB+ & Internet radio receiver, an Oppo BD as media player including files from my media server, an JVC acoustic processor for some room simulation (via the equalizer connectors), and a MiniDSP for room correction, connected between the Bose and the amps. And its the ONLY preamp which can be equipped with all three of the decoders/demodulators.
Most of these things, you cannot connect or do with an old Sansui or other kind of receiver. I have a Tate II and Space & Image Composer, but I like the integrated Involve decoders inside of my Bose by far more. In minimum, you would need some Multichannel source switches for connecting all of these devices.
