Happy anniversary Jon to you and your "baby"... and us in a way because we are all part of it now, aren't we?

Countless thanks for your efforts in bringing this site together and enduring the many ups and downs which I'm sure were on the way.

Personally I joined in 2011 and I have not looked back..

I learned so much along the way from all the knowledgeable and friendly mods and contributors and have made a few friends along the way. . Needless to say I day doesn't go by without checking in to get what seem like constant updates..Exciting stuff is always around the bend from SDE, Dutton Vocalion and now Rhino... Thanks to your vision and commitment to the surround cause we have reached what seems to be a turning point and more mainstream acceptance (Dolby Atmos) of surround music.

With humbled respect,

Stephan

I couldn't remember when I joined the commiunity so I had to go back through my posts to find my first one. It was a thanks to Killjoy for saving me some money on Roxy Music's Avalon SACD from Amazon.fr in July 2003.

It was nice to find a welcoming place on the internet which has always been a useful source of information

My thanks to John and all the people who have kept this going over the years.

Hey everyone, thanks for the kind words, but I was not looking for this to be a 'pat Jon on the back' kind of thread. It's really about all of you because without your support, and now financial support to the new ownership, that we are still here and should be for the duration.

Angie & Co. have done a terrific job at keeping this place moving along pretty much as I had it. They kept our Mod staff (who never get enough credit for dealing with all of you o_O !!) and our operation running smoothly and quickly. Sure, there are now ads to keep the place going, but there are ways to remove them which are not painful at all.

The main thing is that the forum, and YOU ALL, can be here long after I am sitting with Ed Bishop and Cai Campbell and all the other QQ members who have left the Earth. If ownership and operation were left to me, this place would get lost and then dumped, including all of our 20 years of data. That was one of the reasons I wanted to move away from ownership.

So really, I appreciate the kind words, I really do, but I'd prefer to hear how QQ has helped you as a member, or memories of the forum way back when, then just a bunch of pats on my back.

Hey! I love them, and cherish them, but as I said before, let's make this anniversary about the forum and the members, and not just me! I hate blushing, you know?

And if you are curious, you can see where you stack up in membership order. Especially for you 20 year vets. Hold the cursor over your UserName next to your avatar on the left side of one of your posts. Hold it there, then look at the bottom of the screen.

You will see something like 'https://quadraphonicquad.com/forums/members/YourUserName.xxxx',
where the xxxx is your user number which is chronological in order of enrollment.

So I am #1 (of course), Cai is #2 (he really wanted that badly so I did it for him), and so on. Check it out!

My collection of 331 surround discs is one of my most prized possessions. I pretty much owe it all to this forum. All the reviews; the notices of new releases; the great posts by the members here have given me this surround life. Something I treasure every day when I fire up my system once again and listen. I love listening to surround music.

Jon the guys at QQ want to take you out to dinner as a thank you for this web site.
Please drive to Gos' home town next thursday pick out any restaurant and let him know what table you're sitting at.
He will make the arrangements and we will meet you there.
Good idea...we could go to Burgers and Beer or could drive a little out of town down Route 9 to the Bluefish Cafe...and I talked to Chevy Chase and he said just put the bill on the Underhills American Express Card

Well, I came here for reasons that are probably different than others.
I kept thinking, surely there must be a way to turn stereo into surround, other than the lame stuff on the AVR's. Remember this is 2006. Also remember I no longer had any of my Quad equipment , some of which did a fair job of "upmixing" as we now call it .
I had also recently bought a Creative 2 ZS sound card, which with Creative's software was able to play DVDA discs from the computer. I also bought the Nero software suite 7, which allowed for recording and rudimentary mixing.
I was stoked, to say the least, and high to be back into surround after my days as a Quad system owner had passed.
Add to this, or before this, I had come home from work one day and my wife had bought me a new Sony 5.1 AVR, a TT, a CD player, and some budget speakers and sub! My first surround gear since Quad.

But QQ interested me and I decided to join. People that actually loved surround music!

It so happened that kempfand responded to a message I posted about changing stereo into surround, and that led me to EoH, who had a site called DTS-AC3 or similar, and where he and kempfand had devised methods of upmixing using Plogue Bidule. I was soon upmixing and getting a blast from it!
There's a long story there, but eventually a group of us started SBU or "Surround By Us" and we grew in membership and were posting upmixes all over the web.

You could say truthfully that my journey back into the world of surround music started right here at QQ. Over the years I've visited many sites/forums, but QQ has been a mainstay throughout it all.

July 9th, 2023 will be the 20th Anniversary of QuadraphonicQuad as we know it today. It's gone through quite a few changes, and new ownership, but it's been pretty much the same old since I created this first post almost 20 years ago. Very cool I must say.
Happy Anniversary Jon and thanks for all the hard work you and the rest have contributed over
the years! I can't believe I've been a multich enthusiast for over 40 years but didn't catch up with this site till a few years back. What a great repository of info on multich recordings this site is for
all interested parties.
Great job guys, much appreciated. !!!

20 years I must have been an early adopter.

Great resource then and now, and pretty much always a friendly place.

Thanks to Jon for founding the forum and setting the rules we follow today, and thanks to the current team taking things on and and keeping it clean.

Like Jon its a shame that we have lost some great contributors over the years I was shocked when Cai left us.

Onwards and upwards for another 20 years.

I found QQ in a search for somebody to repair, ironically enough, a Sansui AU-5500. I was really into vintage gear, particularly Sansui. I read on these pages about the QRX's and learned about quad matrix and CD4. I remember being in awe of Cai Campbell's home build with an entire home integrated audio system.

I ended up with a QRX-7001 and ran it down to the "Quad Shack" in San Diego, CA where the infamous Quad Bob had all of his amazing gear and repair shop. I loved his QRX-999, but never made that happen. Over the years, I did end up with a 9001, QSD-1, Tate, Composer, Marantz 4140 and of course a SM...and a few speakers and subs along the way. I even now have my sights on a QSD-2.

I've learned a tremendous volume of all things surround on this forum. And to this day, the knowledge, history and awesome comradery among members amazes me....particularly in these years where restraint and mutual respect seem to be less valuable to the world.

Congratulations to all of us QQ'ers and a specific shout out to some of the very early members and those who lived and breathed the originsl quad era, who continue to happily share their knowledge over and over as the years go by, and interested parties come and sometimes go. Oh, and how about that Wurly Scope? No where else can you find things such as these.
