Not exactly a spelling issue but....
I always get annoyed when people don't care about something and say "I could care less". That means you actually do care. The correct sentiment is "I could NOT care less".

It's an idiom (which don't have to be logical) and it's sarcasm. Are you also annoyed by "I should be so lucky!"? (meaning: I'll never be that lucky)
 
There ain't no "American language". If you mean (North) American English (which includes Canada), then it's a dialect of English, not a language.


Oh but what about Newfoundland , as per Newfi.

That's a unique language, with some of the best pontificating in between responses I've ever heard. 😀

Lots of nonstandard words are included in various dictionaries. Usage trumps everything.

I was an English major and teacher in a previous life, but I try not to be bothered by textual transgressions. I sometimes commit them myself. ;) :geek::eek:
I knew an English teacher who blamed her poor spelling on having to read student papers.
