I'm horrified that you want to cut off the rack ears from a piece of equipment! I've heard of people doing that to the QSD-1! IMHO equipement looks better with rack ears on even if not mounted into a rack!

Well, the shelf is a bit narrow, designed to fit the gear on a shelf instead of in a rack. I've done a ton of rack work over the years, and while it's a very convenient way to mount pro gear, most of us don't actually use racks, and most of our gear needs a shelf instead.

I've heard of people doing that to the QSD-1!

OMG...I won't be able to sleep with that vision in my head...please say it's not so....
