Could it possibly have something to do with the fact he's still alive? Maybe he has final say about his releases and has no interest.

He's one of those classic artists that, IMHO, should have had a resurgence like Tony Bennett. (Then again, Lady Gaga was the one to really bring him back into the spotlight.) There have been a few others whose names escape me right now, but it's happened.
I'm betting that Johnny wasn't up for making any dark sacrifices to be a part of The Club like Gaga & Bennett.

What “dark sacrifices”? Like a cheesy 90s duets album with contemporary artists?

Getting back to our latest Rhino hint from FR, what do you think will be included in this #7 batch, given it will be part of a Black History Month package?

I'm hoping for a Dionne Warwick in there along with another Spinners
I would like to think that the MJQ's time has come, but which one? And the live Aretha Franklin gets good notices for the quad mix as well as for sound quality. Would the Best of Aretha get another crack at it on Hi-Rez BluRay? I have to wonder if its still too early for the Quadio series to roll the dice on another Spinners album? ....and 4th choice, yeah, I'm going with the Wiz featuring the wonderful Stephanie Mills.
Another possibility is The Wiz Original Cast Recording featuring Stephanie Mills as Dorothy [Atlantic Records/QUAD]

The Wiz Album Cover by Hinton Battle, Mabel King, Stephanie Mills, Ted ...

anything's possible when it comes to the music business, it seems.

Although (correct me if I'm wrong, of course) but I don't recall most of his 70s catalog ever being released on CD by CBS/Sony, but instead some of them were licensed to small reissue labels like Real Gone and often released as cheapy-twofers.

While presumably Columbia still controls those titles, as they have continued to release Mathis compilation CDs over the years, it doesn't seem anyone is THAT precious about them. I suppose it could be Johnny has some say and has some objection to the quad mixes (although he certainly seemed OK with them at the time as so many of his titles were released in quad) but it also seems logical that he'd like see his catalog get some new life and maybe even make a buck or two in the process as well.
I am Tad. Brad's partner back in the day. Only artists we were not allowed back then when we accessed Sony was Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan and Barbara Striesand. Brads wife was a Johnny Mathis fan, and she issued the DTS title after Brad passed away. They were not concerned with him then. Doubt they are now.

I seem to remember that Paul Simon didn't respond.

"BMG plans to work with Turner and Warner Music to reintroduce her hits to a younger generation and expand her reach."

Ike & Tina's 'Bolic' Studios was built with Quadraphonic sound in mind. Both big recording suites at Bolic were set up for Quad mixing. We did only get the one live Tina Concert; but were other albums mixed?? Makes me wonder.... C'mon BMG & Warner! Let's make something happen!

I'd love to hear River Deep, Mountain High in Atmos or 5.1/quad for that matter. Bring it!
A wall of sound indeed.

I'm super new here. How far in advance (if at all) will we learn the titles ahead of a hopeful 2/7 release date?
It's random, but usually a couple of weeks. It depends on 1) the clues we get from Foraging Rhino and 2) how good the members here are at guessing. 🙂
