I listened to the quad mix yesterday. After not hearing it for a long time, I was reminded that it wasn’t just Bolin who was a star on the album, although his playing was what had originally drawn me in. Cobham is all over the place (in a good way) and I spent a lot of time just focusing on his playing. And all the other players shine in their own ways.

It’s not that I didn’t know that, but until recently my listening tended to happen while doing other things... working, driving, etc. That still happens, but now that I have a simple 5.1 setup in a spare room without a computer or other distractions, quad (and vinyl) listening is a more focused experience that I’m really enjoying.

I have my main computer work station in my listening room now for the last five years or so. And I think it has sometimes diminished the intensity that I’m experiencing while listening. Need to fix that.

This is a sick BD.
I knew this album would sound killer in quad. Out of all the albums available in quad which Rhino could release, this is my number one pick. Hopefully eventually everyone will get theirs released as well.

My copy has not arrived yet. That is why I have not rated it yet. Here's hoping it comes tomorrow.

i BUMPED Spectrum three times last night! All RIGHT!!!

Changed my tune on this one--gave it an extra chance once I saw it was a Ken Scott production. It's got some good stuff for sure even though I never heard it before. I bet that Snoopy tune (and one other) they had a surround field day with the opening swirling synths!

Ask for Pick of the Litter, even though I'm not a fan of the whole album in general (too slow) I can't get GPP out of my head now. I'm wondering how they surround-handled that deep baritone voice that comes in out of nowhere :)

I bought the first five quadio bundles. Out of the twenty discs I found there were only two or three that I listened to regularly. Most of them I have played only once and there are a couple I haven’t played as of yet. I am just getting the ones that interest me from now on.
So I ordered three from the last two bundles. Since it was over $50 the shipping was free. Total cost was $76.18 with tax.
Still a good deal imo.

I don’t listen to any of my discs Quadio or otherwise “regularly” - in fact I try to avoid listening to anything too much, and keep the freshness of the experience going for as long as I can. So the Quadios have each been played 2-3 times only. Then I’ll go back and play one again 6-9 months later and find something I didn’t notice before. If I do come across one that is just not my cup of tea, I’ll wait until it’s out of print and all sold out, and then list it for sale. I’ve never owned a surround disc that I could not sell in the used market for more than I paid for it.

I figure it helps the series going to keep buying them all. Then maybe selling a few some years later can help me in covering the cost of all this music collecting.
“God knows you ain’t taking nothing with you when you go”

PS I spent $700 on vinyl LPs last month when Uni had their 50% off sale with free shipping. I should actually be about tapped out by now.

I don't feel so bad now after last months 'I'm going to keep to a budget' after seeing that
It was 50% EVERYTHING on the entire site! So I was grabbing all of these colored vinyl deluxes, Lennon, Stones, Zappa, Impulse Jazz, and some things I'd never heard before. All reissues but there were analog cuts, audiophile, limited editions, and Bernie Grundman "BG" cuts, etc.
Beautiful things, and many of the single LPs were $15 each. I went back after a single purchase, and then back again.

@quicksrt inquired earlier about the quad mix credit for Billy Cobham's Spectrum. No one answered, but I’m curious too.
Ken Scott did the stereo, but did he mix the quad?
I'm wondering if anyone is going to take a good guess at the "engineer" initials shown on tape box photo in the booklet?
I figured someone would post the picture, or mention, or crack this mystery.

Loving batch #7.

Question: Does anyone know how big the production run is for these quadio titles or any physical immersive titles? Wondering what the market size is for other artists who might consider mixing/releasing in immersive.

Welp...looks like I was wrong to give Gnarlywood another chance.

Backstory: I had utterly miserable experiences with them on each of the first 3 bundles, and after the third strike, I was so aggravated that I vowed never to give them my business again. But after a number of folks posted here about smooth sailing this time around, I began to think...okay--maybe they've finally gotten their act together, plus I'd like to signal my support of Rhino for issuing these titles for Black History Month. And then they offered free shipping for Presidents Day, so...

Order went through with no problem. Got a shipping confirmation indicating that all four titles would arrive together in one shipment. And then Lucy van Gnarlywood yanked away the football again. (Wump!) Which is to say: package arrived today, and it's missing Aretha. R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

Boy, do I feel like a sucker. Complaint filed via the Rhino Store "Customer Service" page. Stay tuned, I guess.

Edit: to their credit, I got an email response from the Rhino Store right away, apologizing and offering to send out the missing item ASAP. Maybe they really are turning over a new leaf! Feeling a little more optimistic and charitable now.

Whatever you're doing, don't piss them off any more! They seem to have a grudge. . . .

Got my Quadio bundle but this was left out. No explanation. Email inquiry got bounced back with some weird contact postmaster response. Is this still in stock? The cd cardboard box could only fit 3 cd's not the usual 4 so I don't know what's going on. Will try to call Monday.

I’ve received bundles in two different mailers in the past. But I also received two emails with the tracking for each. I would continue to email or call until you get a proper response if you don’t hear from them by Monday. Keep the original shipping package too.

I received my bundle a few days ago and it didn't seem to be as well-packaged (relatively speaking, as they are never packaged all that well) as usual. The four Quadios were also packaged tightly with the "Rumours" BD I ordered to help defray the shipping costs.

But I've been lucky, compared to other tales here. This was the first time one shipped with a broken jewel case. Fortunately, I still have an 'extra' from that defective "Spinners" disc. But if I get another one, I guess I'll have to order some of those empty jewel boxes I saw a link here for a while back.

I did get a response to provide address for shipping missing disc. It was earlier than the bounce back email saying reply not received. It read like a phony spam email with broken English but had my full message that I sent about the missing disc. Strange.
If it's in stock they will ship or refund if it's not.
