The CD-DVD version is there as well - $2 cheaper than the Blu-ray version.

only another $2 and you get the blu-ray instead..!? :yikes

..and yet we're told by the labels that blu-ray's are too costly for these deluxe edition/surround-y things so more often than not we're lumbered with lossy cheapo DVD-V, like it or lump it.

Agreed. Blu-ray against the lossy war!

That is the problem, as I see it. I had the CD-DVD on order, and I would prefer to have DVD-Audio to Blu-ray ... well, I would actually rather have MC SACD ... but since it is a crap-shoot whether you will get lossless or not, I switched my order to the Blu-ray. It was actually only about a dollar and a half more, so a no-brainer really.

So far all the Rush cd\dvd's have been DVDA so that's the one for me. I can play the Dvda's on more players.
If for some unexplained reason no Dvda layer than the bluray for sure but as so close to Christmas will not do a preorder and hopefully pickup at futureshop or bestbuy.

Sure we all have mostly dvda's and a well done dvda is a great listen. But there is something about bluray too. The thing is we don't have a lot of them to compare but the ones I have (DTS-HD) sound VG. I'm getting the CD/Bluray 2112.

I've decided to get the Blu-ray too.... It won't have the (DVD-A) clipping problem that you have on Oppo 83s...

Moving Pictures was released on Blu-ray. I bought both versions, but never opened the DVD-Audio one. I really shouldn't keep all of these duplicates.

I did the same thing, bought both and never opened the DVD-A. I pre-ordered 2112 on BD. Will wait and see if I really want or need the other.

Until they start putting blu-ray players in cars, I'm going with DVD-A when given the option.

Hmm.

Like the other Rush surround releases to date – Moving Pictures, A Farewell To Kings, Fly By Night, and Signals – 2112 has been remixed at a 96 khz 24 bit high resolution from the original multitrack masters in a 're-creation' direction taking advantage of the 3-dimensional soundscape of surround, rather than a complete re-interpretation of the mix. I have had quite a few questions about the technical side of the process so time depending, I'll try to get an article put together about it and get it posted here or published.

I must confess, that yes, the mixes are a VERY different approach from the SW or ES mixes we know(and love too), the Rush MCH DVD-A 5.1 mixes are quite good,
at least we get full frequency spectrum and instrument separation up to a point,
and as I stated in another thread,
it all depends on what a mixing engineer's concept of a "surround" mix consists of...

all in all, I still like the Rush MCH mixes ("Snakes and Arrows" included)....
very thankful we got it...

Amazon.de is showing the 3different packages with prices, http://www.amazon.de/s/ref=sr_st?__...871&rh=n:255882,k:Rush+2112&sort=-releasedate Still as imports, so I guess the price will come down for EU releases.
The USA Amazon has a pretty good price for the dvd-audio version but the Blu-ray is about $10 more. I think I'll wait to see if Best Buy will stock these like they did with Moving Pictures. Best Buy is a bit cheaper for the Blu-ray version than Amazon.

if this turns out to be crap, I'll be sick as a brick..!!

(I said Brick, not Prick!) :ugham:

When you consider the guy's saying he did them the same way he did the other ones, why expect anything different? It'll be a shame, especially on this album, if it least doesn't have some of the heights "Moving Pictures" had in places.

When you imagine what could have been with some of these, you have to shake your head.

all factored in :) I'd had a few drinks when I posted and couldn't resist the Brick/sick/prick pun!

ultimately, I'm prepared for the worst.. and will be pleasantly surprised if this mix turns out to be any good in surround. if its as good as the Moving Pictures, that'll just have to do :)

backing up what rtbluray has said here prev., this Rush release may just enable the EJ/Steely D 5.1 mixes to get out if it sells well.. and those are "in the bag", would no doubt sell as well as this 2112.. and be almost dead cert's to be great surround mixes, coming from Greg Penny & Elliot Scheiner.

even haven't been a diehard fan of the band, i for one welcome any and all of their albums to be released in HiRez surround.
the more artists of the Rush's calibre will do this, the better for cause. i hope "2112", more guitars driven and less with
those terrible sound of synths from late 70th - early 80th should be just fine.
so, this one will be their fifth album in 5.1 HiRez. 15 more to accomplish full discography. curious why they don't re-released
"S&A" as a lossless HiRez 5.1 since 5.1 mix already were done but was offered only as a crappy DD
