I made a simple change today, just because I am hyper focused on my rig right now.
I have always disliked my Niagra 5000, never felt comfortable with it, no display, and actually makes a low hum noise coming out of unit, WTF man, really?
So after a couple of years of tossing and turning I purchased from PSAUDIO the POWERPLANT 15, huge improvement, can read it as it goes along, no outside noise emitting from unit. Nice and clean, seems to help all three levels of sound, bass, mid range and tweet.
It's brand new hours old but it's an immediate improvement ,but time will tell if it continues to be OK once the Placebo wears off.

I also removed some clutter from the rack, I had a DirecTV box that I used daily, but was thumbing around on my Apple 4K and checked out the DirecTV app, what a dunce I am, so got rid of the unit, HDMI, power cord, and cable coax, comes from the dish.
Also got rid of my Sony SACD/DVD-A player, power cord and HDMI, I rip all discs and have never used it.
A good day, added one good electronic thing and got rid of two clutter electronic things.
Not to mention got rid of about half the dust back there.

How do you feel about it, compared to lower end disc washer type stuff? I'm deciding that disc washer leaves a residue, and translates to scratchy noise on the disc. I hate it.
Game changer! I'm LOVING it! Yes, it was expensive, but--for now--worth it! I'll bring it over when i visit, and we'll clean your LPs and CRANK up that 2nd sub! Stay Surrounded, Comrade!

And by disc washer, what I meant was the old school RCA type brand with the brush and liquid. Not the spin clean, which accidently got thrown out in a box from the basement!!!

Yeah! I hear you. I agree with you about the disc washer. When i come and visit to hear your system, i'll bring you my spin cleaner . . . and its box!

You guys can compare shopping carts after your wives lock you out of the house after your recent music purchases.....
GOS’s ace in the hole is showing his wife all the space he’s freed up by downsizing his physical media collection. And if he sells enough OOP media it can eventually cover the cost of his new subwoofer.

Looks great Mark! I do wonder, however, why you didn’t opt for the Power Plant in black. 🤔

Good question.
My Niagra had a chrome front, and because it was so shiny even though it was silver it reflected the black and looked like black chrome.
My basic way of thinking was I don't like all black. I have some other silver components and I also don't like black main speakers like the wood grain.
That was all my reason, but to be honest, even though pre measured of course from the spec sheet it looks bigger than I am used to, so if I had to do over I think I would do black, of course I am on 30 day return now and I could get black, but it is OK.
You should see what I might get, which is super cool.
McIntosh Audio Cabinets
I would get the walnut, 34.5 tall X 76.5 long. It is 6" taller than my current racks so would need to raise TV .

You’ll either quickly get used to it and no longer care or, alternatively, you’ll have minor lingering regrets that you didn’t switch it out during the 30 day return period. I say this not knowing what switching it out would cost you for shipping. I know, talk about first world problems.

The McIntosh rack looks beautiful. Looks almost like a McIntosh branded version of equipment racks made by the Box Furniture Company.

Thank you. Just got off phone with PSAudio, needed to confirm some questions I had with the P15, all answered great, really good and friendly customer service.
I can switch the silver to black. I have to return the silver unit, then when they recieve it back, I can order a new black, I said fuck it, I'll be fine with it, all your fault anyway :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: .
I looked at BOX FURNITURE COMPANY, agree.
This company MYRO was in the running also.
But if I'm gonna be a McIntosh man, I have to pay the piper. The real cool thing about the McIntosh it is one unit on castors, that you can lower the unit to the floor, so you don't see the castors and reinforces no movement.

My current VTI was perfect for the price and except for the MDF wood shelves all metal, plus a complete pain in the ass to move as I have to move the three racks a few inches at a time and the equipment is very heavy, I can do it, but you have to pull and push from very bottom, could you imagine pushing from the top and those spikes slipping, yikes.
Plus I have decided all solid wood is preferable to even solid wood with spikes, I don't like the spikes anymore.

You agree with me so you must be a wise man! 🤣

Didn’t know about the option of hiding the casters; that makes it an even easier decision.

Yeah, I’ve never been a big fan of spikes either, especially with a wood floor. 🤷‍♂️

You and @HomerJAU have the B&W systems that so many of us drool over.

What was your learning curve with REW?

I'm 55 and getting dumber by the day. I was also able to do it, so I know anyone can :)

It's helpful to be registered at AVS as there is a dedicated thread (40,000 posts) with users that can help with any questions you have. To get started there is a comprehensive guide to getting started with REW and/or some good YT videos to help get started if you prefer that style of learning.

Outside the above reference materials, I didn't need much online help. But I'm only scratching the surface on what REW can do. I use it for things like sub location, seating location, phase, level matching, crossovers, and tweaking sub distances. My latest thing is RT60 Graphs to help determine how much acoustic treatings I need in my room.

Yeah, our man of many talents, Garry, has the full big B&W set up, so he is more advanced than me in so may ways.
I think I have all my quirks fixed that popped up the last few days, let things chill as it is for awhile, Mitch Barnett is on holiday for 8 days but he did get back to me, so I have the room correction in the works. I need to get off my ass and go exercise. Back to my job tomorrow so it's been a nice 4 days spending it with all my friends on QQ.
Happy New Year.

Your post reminded me of this:

Your post reminded me of this:

The funny thing is I understand this guy, now most certainly as far as he went, he would be king. But after all that and his living space I am positive you can find better sounding. Poor guy.
I am a believer only for myself, not for others, please keep serious comments to your self as I won't play, if joking go for it.
Anyway, I have been gullible I guess is a better word for wanting to improve my rig with more expensive, lets just say that for the naysayers, cables and interconnects and including of course power supply's, regenerators, etc.

But, I am very proud to say, that when I was a beginner on SACD.net in 2014 someone told me to take a green felt pen and color the edge of discs with that, I thought no, not going to try.

Speaking of wiping discs, I did go through a period of wiping all discs with special sauce before putting them in player, I felt it worked to a degree, but what a hassle, risk vs reward.

Now, I open disc, rip disc, and put disc in closet, only listen to digital files so I can eat fried chicken and not worry about smudges.

Good note for 2024, lets laugh at ourselves and this silly hobby.

Fun post marpow. I remember seeing a readout of the line voltage fluctuations entering into a PS Audio Power Plant pre-correction, plus I fully appreciate how a bad power source can affect audio AND video. To quote The Monkees, “I’m A Believer.”

Regarding the rest of it, I don’t see any Shakti stones on your system! 😉
