Guess this as good of a place as any, to ask a burning question I have......
Since I only have a 70's, 4 channel surround system. What am I missing with playing Atmos or even a 5.1 tracks? Or are the additional tracks blended into 4 with my Sansui? Am I wasting $$ buying bluray audio? Listening to my Rhino Chicago bluray now, and it sounds excellent, but I just keep wondering...

Iam like RIP Van Winkle, as I've missed the last 45yrs of surround music improvements and everything is confusing as......well you know

Thanks for the replies, but I should have been clearer with my question.
I have a refurbished Sansui 9001 being fed by an Oppo 105. Iam stuck with 4 channels.
So buying Dolby Atmos, 5.1 bluray discs, etc, am I missing music or is it just blended into my 4 channels? Iam sure 8, 9, or 10+ channels is awesome, but Iam happy with what I got with no plans for upgrading
Sitting on the sofa looking/listening at that Sansui takes me back to when I first bought it in the 70's
Sweet musical memories 🎶

I’m not sure if the Oppo will fold 5.0 into 4.0, but I think it will. It will play Atmos files as though theynhad no object metadata, because it doesn’t read that metadata.

I have a 105, and it’s important to be sure it’s set up to only output the channels you can play.

Thank you for the answer I can understand 😁
I will check the Oppos settings when I get home

I wish more video game soundtracks (actually, soundtracks in general) took the economical Blu-ray route instead of spreading things across a million CDs. It's a shame that Square Enix is the only company that tries.

Took my wife to school this morning, and this caught my eye . . . Happy Halloween!
