Despite getting the flu vaccine every year around Columbus Day, I had a bad case of the flu last year. And even with the Covid vaccine, I've had a few cases, once when we were on vacation in Rome 2022 for my step son's wedding.

On December 16th 2024 my wife tested positive for Covid, so I took an at home test as well because I had been experiencing some disgusting phlegm for a week or so. I tested positive as well, and went to urgent care where they advised that I didn't need to take Plaxovoid because the side effects (food will have a metallic taste) are worse than the symptoms and besides that I felt fine and my breathing sounded OK.
On Friday December 20th I took the dog to the vet in the morning for a scheduled visit. I was so tired when I came home that I told my wife that I had to take a nap. I NEVER take naps. When I woke up I was very disoriented. I couldn't remember where I put the paperwork from the veterinarian, and I could only remember one name of my 7 grandkids. My wife took me to Urgent Care and when I started vomiting, they put me in an ambulance to the Emergency room. I had a seizure on the way there!

I was in Intensive Care with a tube down my throat, 2 MRIs, an epidermal and all kinds of tests. I must of had walking pneumonia for a while. I came out of the medically induced coma on Sunday the 22nd. They had administered amnesia medicine so I don't remember anything! I came home on Christmas Eve which may have been the best present I ever received!

I (finally) get to see the neurologist this afternoon to try to make sense of this whole ordeal!

During the swine flu scare a few years back it was observed that older people were less likely to be infected. Initially this was theorised to be them having been exposed decades previously to a similar strain. But in the UK we have samples from all epidemics back to before WWII and testing showed that none of them were similar. The eventual conclusion was that older people getting the flu jab year after year for several decades had given them generally heightened resistance to flu. This is still only a theory though.

I used to get the flu in the fall/early winter then again often in late winter/early spring. I've been getting flu shots for decades now and the flu has only beat me to the shot once...but it was a doozy.

I started getting the flu shot over 20 years ago, but for 4 years in a row the shot itself laid me out for a week unable to work my reaction to the shot was so bad. I decided this was a poor trade off and stopped getting it. I got the one off swine flu shot though. I started again with flu shots in 2020 since I wanted to reduce the risk of catching both flu and covid and figured during a pandemic a week unable to do anything was acceptable. But I had no side effects at all from the flu shot, and I've had it every year since with no side effects. Compared to 20 years ago the shot has changed from egg grown to cell culture grown, but also I'm 20 years older. I'm just glad I can have it regularly now.

Holy @#$&! Hope you heal as quickly as possible.

Today against all odds I found 3 SDE titles in a used record store...more importantly, there's someone other than me interested in surround in a 50 mile radius????????
good prices, and did you need/buy any? I feel they are keepers, one and all (well mostly), BTW.

myself and another hungry QQ member at the SDE used record store bin...

Flipping through Ford v. Ferrari since I actually hadn't watched it in surround previously, noticed a historical inconsistency... all the articles I can find on the film's historicity are about "Henry Ford II didn't really say that" or "Ken Miles drove for Shelby in the 1965 Le Mans 24 as well."

But... I can't find any that address Ken Miles trying to murder Rolf Stommelen in the #58 Porsche during the night, in the rain. Kind of a glaring thing, since the #58 car won the Sports Group 4 class, rather than crashing through a billboard as in the movie.

Kinda would think people writing about inconsistencies in the movies would mention that.

I don't know if they were good prices, the titles didn't particularly compel me, but uh

Def Leppard - Diamond Star Halos
Duran Duran - Dance Macabre
Mark Knopfler - One Deep River

all with slipcases, all 45 USD each. I didn't pick them up.

What's a used record store?
Seriously, the last one I was in was about 85 miles away, though I don't really keep up these days. For sure nothing local. Used to be/may still be a good one in Gainesville.

The ONLY surround title I ever found locally I think was DSOTM SACD at WalMart a long time ago.

yeah, probably better to wait for a GOS sale ;-) 'One Deep River' is the least fav. surround wise of that bunch for me. Interesting to see what the aftermarket on some of these are running (~NM)-

on discogs for "Diamond Star Halos" they're running about $55-$65+

and for "Danse Macabre" (I assume 1st Ed. from 2023) about $48-$68+

Thanks!
Update:
I finally got an appointment with the neurologist today. He does not know exactly what caused the seizure, but it was most likely triggered by a virus, either the COVID and/or pneumonia. If I ever have dirty phlegm again I am going to treat it immediately!

I have to stay on the medication for 6 months and also I can't drive for six months!
