Amazing 4K Blu-Ray player; one problem:
Doesn't produce sound from DVD/A's, or SACD's, from a Sonos Arc
Everything else, including True/HD, & Dolby Atmos, work perfectly
My Sony XR-77A80J, is showing the discs playing, but there's no sound
Called, Sony; they're clueless
Thoughts,ideas, or solutions?

I have a Sony UHP H1 and one of my discs had this problem until I went into the Sony menu and selected the output to PCM - not Auto. Worth a try?

Do what Cubair suggested. My guess is its trying to send DSD over HDMI to the soundbar/TV and there is no decoder available to accept DSD there. I'm not sure about the DVD-A. I think the DVD-As MLP stream decodes to PCM inside the player. If not, and its trying to send an MLP stream out, that would cause the same issue.

I think that the Sonos doesn't know how to handle the data formats, and you'll only be able to play PCM via an eARC connection.

How many different formats? And that list us only the ones that do play.

We only had 5 major choices with quad: RM, SQ, CD-4, Q4, and Q8.

I'm using an eArc, connection through my Brand New 77" Sony XR-77A80J; everything but DVD/A, & SACD, plays PERFECTLY! You can see the discs playing on the screen, but the sound is non-existent; weird, because I get Dolby Atmos, True HD, & all the others; need PRO HELP!

Have you looked for relevant settings on the TV? If you read what Duncan posted above from Sonus, you will see that those Dolby formats are a special group that use a Dolby MAT container.

If you connect the disk player directly to the TV can you get audio from SACD? DVDA?

Its an Audio Return Channel, so if the TV can't play or doesn't recognise the audio data stream I don't think it will be passed on to the eARC/HDMI link. Its similar to why an AV amp needs an HDMI pass-through for 4k if it can't handle it inherently, if it doesn't it won't get through.

Hi CPR, following up on your issue with the Sony UBP-X1100ES, was there a resolution for the lack of sound produced from DVD Audios, or SACDs? I ask because I have a similar setup and issue. I also have a Sony A80J and a Sonos Arc and have been running with a Sony UBP-X800M2 4K Blu Ray Player. Both SACDs and DVD Audio had played beautifully for about six months and then just stopped completely. Well...that is to say that the SACD and DVD Audio discs still play, just no audio can be heard through the Sonos Arc. However, I can still enjoy Dolby Atmos and now DTS via the Blu Ray, just no support for 5.1 PCM. As part of testing, I swapped out the Sony UBP-X800M2 4K Blu Ray player with the model that you have (purchased last year for my 2.0 channel stereo system and it is indeed awesome). That player also cannot produce SACD or DVD Audio 5.1 sound via the Sonos Arc. I am not sure if the issue lies with the Sony Blu Ray Players or the Arc...looking for solutions and hope that you have found one. Thanks and have a great start to your week...

The issue is partially resolved:
ALL the disc formats will play, when I disconnect the Sonos , & play the audio through my Sony TV
DuncanS, nailed it; the Sonos does NOT recognize, DVD/A's, SACD's, DTS/CD's
Therefore, the Sony BluRay, is fine; it's the Sonos, that has the audio problem
BTW: I called Sonos, numerous times, for a fix
They don't have one
All they do is play the blame game, with Sony
It's sad that I have to listen to my High end audio, through a television

The sound from my Sonos Arc is incredible; not true 5.1 surround
but WAY better than my Sony; (which , by the way, sounds amazing for a television)
The DVD/A's, play in Dolby digital, & DTS 5.1
Sound WAY better than any of the STREAMED Dolby Atmos, trash, from Apple Music, & Amazon

Does your Sonos Arc have an HDMI input?
