Please post your thoughts and comments on this new Blu-Ray Audio release of the classic Spinners album "Pick of the Litter".
Released as part of Rhino's ongoing Quadio series, this new Blu-Ray Audio release features the first release of the original Quadraphonic mix in over 50 years!

Surround mix is lively. Audio fidelity is very good. This is my first listen to most of the songs--which are very good. But I instantly recognized "Games People Play" and really enjoyed it. Packaging is consistent with previous QUADIO releases. Rated 9.

I voted 10.
If you like quad in a discrete mix, well this is the one, pure discrete. Super well balanced vocals up front but instruments all over in a fantastic way. From Detroit but in my mind they sure captured that Philly sound. Confusing as sometimes listed as The Spinners and other times Spinners, I'm sticking with Spinners.
Pick Of The Litter has great songs, but nothing creatively different from there usual formula.
Blu Ray rip-FLAC file-4.0 DTS HD Mstr-24bit/192Khz-DR's are 12's, 13's, 14.

The fidelity on this recording is very good, and the quad mix is nice and full. Unfortunately, I'm not really digging the album. I'm a big fan of early 70s R&B but by the time of this album, their sound was starting to get dated and outside of the lone hit "Games People Play", there's not a lot of tracks here I'm jonesing to go back to. IF you already love this album, it's probably a "10". If you're just 'meh' on it like me? Not so much. The earlier "Spinners" album was much better, IMO. Maybe after a couple of more spins, I'll revise my vote. In the meantime, this is a "7".
